¹ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

¹⁸ Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

¹ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, ² Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

¹⁶ And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

²⁷ And when Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, You son of David, have mercy on us.

²² And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same borders, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, you son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

⁴² Saying, What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. ⁴³ He says unto them, How then does David in spirit call him Lord, saying, ⁴⁴ The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit you on my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool? ⁴⁵ If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

³¹ And, behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name JESUS. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

⁶⁹ And has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; ⁷⁰ As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

⁴² Has not the scripture said, That Christ comes of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

²² And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, which shall fulfill all my will. ²³ Of this man's seed has God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

³ Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

¹³ For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

⁵ Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

¹⁶ Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He says not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to your seed, which is Christ.

¹⁶ I Jesus have sent my angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
