²⁵ For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: ²⁶ The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she asked him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

¹⁷ And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto you my son, which has a dumb spirit; ¹⁸ And wherever he takes him, he tears him: and he foams, and gnashes with his teeth, and pines away: and I spoke to your disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. ¹⁹ He answers him, and says, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I endure you? bring him unto me. ²⁰ And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, immediately the spirit tore him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. ²¹ And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. ²² And frequently it has cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.

¹³ And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

³⁸ And he cried, saying, Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me. ³⁹ And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, You son of David, have mercy on me.

⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Has not the scripture said, That Christ comes of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
