¹³ They gaped on me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

² Lest they tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

¹² Like as a lion that is greedy of its prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

⁷ All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

²¹ Save me from the lion's mouth: for you have heard me from the horns of the wild oxen.

¹⁷ Lord, how long will you look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my precious life from the lions.

²¹ Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth against you: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

At the last came two false witnesses, ⁶¹ And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. ⁶² And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answer you nothing? what is it which these witness against you? ⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you be the Christ, the Son of God. ⁶⁴ Jesus said unto him, You have said so: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall you see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. ⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, He has spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:
