² When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

³⁴ Surely he scorns the scornful: but he gives grace unto the lowly. ³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the recompense of fools.

³³ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ¹⁹ Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

⁸ When you are bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest place; lest a more honorable man than you be bidden of him; ⁹ And he that bade you and him come and say to you, Give this man your place; and you begin with shame to take the lowest place. ¹⁰ But when you are bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that bade you come, he may say unto you, Friend, go up higher: then shall you have honor in the presence of them that sit at table with you. ¹¹ For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹ Now concerning things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. ² And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.
