⁸ I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

⁷ Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands; ⁸ And said, If Esau comes to the one company, and smites it, then the other company which is left shall escape. ⁹ And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD who said unto me, Return unto your country, and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you: ¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which you have showed unto your servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I have become two bands. ¹¹ Deliver me, I pray you, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. ¹² And you said, I will surely do you good, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

¹² And when he was in affliction, he sought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, ¹³ And prayed unto him: and he received his entreaty, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.

⁵ If you would seek unto God early, and make your supplication to the Almighty;

²¹ Acquaint now yourself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto you.

²⁷ You shall make your prayer unto him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows.

⁵ Commit your way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.

¹ [To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.] I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me. ² In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.

¹ Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly, ² And said, I cried by reason of my affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of sheol cried I, and you heard my voice. ³ For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods surrounded me: all your billows and your waves passed over me. ⁴ Then I said, I am cast out of your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. ⁵ The waters surrounded me, even to the soul: the deep closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. ⁶ I went down to the foundations of the mountains; the earth with her bars closed about me forever: yet have you brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God. ⁷ When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto you, into your holy temple.

¹² For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

²³ Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judges righteously:

¹⁹ Therefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
