¹³ Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

²² Receive, I pray you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tents. ²⁴ Then shall you lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ Yea, the Almighty shall be your defense, and you shall have plenty of silver. ²⁶ For then shall you have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face unto God. ²⁷ You shall make your prayer unto him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him?

²⁰ I cry unto you, and you do not hear me: I stand up, and you regard me not.

¹⁷ He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁹ The LORD is far from the wicked: but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

⁹ He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

¹ Guard your steps when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. ² Be not rash with your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to utter anything before God: for God is in heaven, and you upon earth: therefore let your words be few. ³ For a dream comes through much business; and a fool's voice is known by a multitude of words.

¹⁵ And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: yea, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

¹¹ Therefore thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.

¹⁴ And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they wailed upon their beds: they assemble themselves for grain and wine, and they rebel against me.

² Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know you. ³ Israel has cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

²² Though you offer me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fatted beasts.

⁷ But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

²¹ And he said unto her, What will you? She said unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on your right hand, and the other on the left, in your kingdom. ²² But Jesus answered and said, You know not what you ask. Are you able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They said unto him, We are able.

³ You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your lusts.
