¹ After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day. ² And Job spoke, and said, ³ Let the day perish on which I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a male child conceived. ⁴ Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it. ⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it. ⁶ As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not rejoice among the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months. ⁷ Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come into it. ⁸ Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to arouse leviathan. ⁹ Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day: ¹⁰ Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from my eyes. ¹¹ Why died I not from the womb? why did I not expire when I came out of the womb? ¹² Why did the knees receive me? or why the breasts that I should nurse? ¹³ For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then would I have been at rest, ¹⁴ With kings and counselors of the earth, who built desolate places for themselves; ¹⁵ Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver: ¹⁶ Or as a hidden untimely birth, I had not been; as infants who never saw light. ¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary are at rest. ¹⁸ There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. ¹⁹ The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master. ²⁰ Therefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul; ²¹ Who long for death, but it comes not; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures; ²² Who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave? ²³ Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God has hedged in? ²⁴ For my sighing comes before I eat, and my groanings are poured out like the waters. ²⁵ For the thing which I greatly feared has come upon me, and that which I was afraid of has come unto me. ²⁶ I was not at ease, neither had I quiet, neither was I at rest; yet trouble came.

¹¹ But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.

²² In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God with wrong.

⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.

⁹ Then said his wife unto him, Do you still retain your integrity? curse God, and die. ¹⁰ But he said unto her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

³ Let the day perish on which I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a male child conceived.

¹⁶ Therefore does Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplies words without knowledge.

² I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred. ³ My heart was hot within me, while I was meditating the fire burned: then spoke I with my tongue,

³³ Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spoke rashly with his lips.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day on which I was born: let not the day on which my mother bore me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A male child is born unto you; making him very glad.

¹⁴ Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do you know that there is in these houses an ephod, and household gods, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what you have to do.

¹⁸ Why then have you brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had died, and no eye had seen me! ¹⁹ I would have been as though I had not been; I would have been carried from the womb to the grave.

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent for interest, nor men have lent to me for interest; yet everyone of them does curse me.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day on which I was born: let not the day on which my mother bore me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A male child is born unto you; making him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide; ¹⁷ Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me. ¹⁸ Why came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

²² And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: ²³ They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

¹² A land which the LORD your God cares for: the eyes of the LORD your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

² A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great and strong people; there has not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, through the years of many generations.

¹⁸ Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

²⁰ And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

¹⁰ And the fifth angel poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

¹¹ And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

²¹ Before I go where I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death; ²² A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

¹⁶ My face is foul from weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one recognizes them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

³ Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out all recesses for ore in darkness, and the shadow of death.

¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed unto you? or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?

⁴ Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.

¹⁹ Though you have severely broken us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.

¹⁰ Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and in irons;

¹⁴ He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands asunder.

² The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the light shined.

⁶ Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

²⁸ For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not relent, neither will I turn back from it.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

³ For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time for the nations.

¹² As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered on a cloudy and dark day.

⁸ Seek him that makes the seven stars and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night: that calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

¹⁰ And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon every waist, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it like the mourning of an only son, and its end as a bitter day.

¹⁶ The people who sat in darkness saw great light; and to them who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

⁷⁹ To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

¹⁸ For you are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

²⁰ It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch his tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their sheepfolds there. ²¹ But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of howling creatures; and ostriches shall dwell there, and wild goats shall dance there. ²² The hyenas shall cry in its towers, and jackals in their pleasant palaces: her time is near, and her days shall not be prolonged.

⁸ The mirth of timbrels ceases, the noise of them that rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases.

³⁴ Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.

²² And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of flutists, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he may be, shall be found any more in you; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in you; ²³ And the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in you: for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries were all nations deceived.

²⁵ And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spoke of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.

¹ Can you draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord which you let down?

¹⁰ None is so fierce that would dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

²⁵ When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: because of his crashings they are beside themselves.

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD of hosts, Consider you, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for skillful women, that they may come: ¹⁸ And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with water.

¹⁶ Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, says thus: Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the farmer to mourning, and such as are skilful in lamentation to wailing.

¹⁷ And saying, We have piped unto you, and you have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and you have not lamented.

³⁸ And he came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

²⁶ When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.

¹⁸ By his sneezings a light flashes, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

¹⁵ We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!

¹⁸ For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.

³¹ And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

⁵ But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

² Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

² Even today is my complaint bitter: my hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

³ If a man begets a hundred children, and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, and his soul is not filled with good, and also that he has no burial; I say, that a stillborn birth is better than he. ⁴ For he comes in with vanity, and departs in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness. ⁵ Moreover he has not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this one has more rest than the other.

¹⁰ Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

¹⁷ Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.

⁹ But you are he that took me out of the womb: you did make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts. ¹⁰ I was cast upon you from birth: you are my God from my mother's womb.

⁸ As a snail who melts, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.

⁶ By you have I been upheld from birth: you are he that took me out of my mother's womb: my praise shall be continually of you.

¹³ For you have formed my inward parts: you have covered me in my mother's womb. ¹⁴ I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are your works; and that my soul knows right well. ¹⁵ My frame was not hid from you, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. ¹⁶ Your eyes did see my substance, being yet unformed; and in your book they were all written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.

³ Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, who are borne by me from birth, who are carried from the womb:

¹⁴ Give them, O LORD: what will you give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

³ And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.

²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.

¹² For thus says the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall you nurse, you shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.

⁴ And as for your nativity, in the day you were born your navel was not cut, neither were you washed in water to cleanse you; you were not rubbed with salt at all, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied you, to do any of these unto you, to have compassion upon you; but you were cast out in the open field, and you were loathed, in the day that you were born.

⁸ The eye of him that has seen me shall see me no more: your eyes are upon me, and I am not. ⁹ As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away: so he that goes down to the grave shall come up no more. ¹⁰ He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and you shall seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

²² A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

¹⁰ But man dies, and wastes away: yea, man expires, and where is he? ¹¹ As the waters fail from the sea, and the river decays and dries up: ¹² So man lies down, and rises not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

¹³ If I wait, the grave is my house: I have made my bed in the darkness.

²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another; though my heart be consumed within me.

¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

²³ One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.

¹⁰ Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

¹⁰ So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

⁴³ And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

¹⁷ He leads counselors away plundered, and makes the judges fools.

²⁸ And he dwells in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabits, which are ready to become heaps.

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

⁶ They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁸ (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever:) ⁹ That he should still live forever, and not see corruption. ¹⁰ For he sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the senseless person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

⁴⁸ What man is he that lives, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

⁸ There is no man that has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither has he power in the day of death: and there is no release from that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

⁸ Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may dwell alone in the midst of the earth!

¹⁰ They all shall speak and say unto you, have you also become weak as we? have you become like unto us? ¹¹ Your pomp is brought down to the grave, and the sound of your harps: the maggot is spread under you, and the worms cover you. ¹² How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how are you cut down to the ground, who did weaken the nations! ¹³ For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the farthest sides of the north: ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. ¹⁵ Yet you shall be brought down to sheol, to the sides of the pit. ¹⁶ They that see you shall gaze upon you, and consider you, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

¹² And they from among you shall build the old waste places: you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of streets to dwell in.

²⁰ When I shall bring you down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old, and shall set you in the lowest parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that you be not inhabited; and I shall give glory in the land of the living;

¹⁸ Damascus was your merchant in the multitude of the wares of your making, for the multitude of great wealth; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool. ¹⁹ Dedan also and Javan going to and fro traded in your wares: wrought iron, cassia, and calamus, were in your market. ²⁰ Dedan was your merchant in saddle blankets for riding. ²¹ Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they traded with you in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these were they your merchants. ²² The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were your merchants: they traded in your fairs with the best of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold. ²³ Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were your merchants. ²⁴ These were your merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and embroidered work, and in rugs of many colors, bound with cords, and made secure, among your merchandise. ²⁵ The ships of Tarshish were carriers for you in your market: and you were filled, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas. ²⁶ Your rowers have brought you into great waters: the east wind has broken you in the midst of the seas. ²⁷ Your riches, and your wares, your merchandise, your mariners, and your pilots, your caulkers, and the traders of your merchandise, and all your men of war, that are in you, and in all your company which is in the midst of you, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of your ruin. ²⁸ The pasture lands shall shake at the sound of the cry of your pilots. ²⁹ And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land; ³⁰ And shall cause their voice to be heard against you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow in the ashes: ³¹ And they shall make themselves utterly bald for you, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing. ³² And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for you, and lament over you, saying, What city is like Tyre, like that destroyed in the midst of the sea?

¹⁸ And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.

²⁷ And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowlands, for abundance.

²¹ He pours contempt upon princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty.

²⁵ Yea, the Almighty shall be your defense, and you shall have plenty of silver.

¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and pile up clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

⁷ Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

³ And Tyre did build herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.

⁸ And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one untimely born.

¹³ O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would conceal me, until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

¹⁶ They shall go down to the gates of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

⁵ Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me. ⁶ And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. ⁷ Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. ⁸ I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

¹ The righteous perishes, and no man lays it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. ² He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

²⁸ And fear not them who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

⁴ And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

⁶ Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; ⁷ And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

⁹ There remains therefore a rest to the people of God.

¹¹ Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

⁸ (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

¹³ And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on: Yea, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.

⁶ And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying, ⁷ You shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as before: let them go and gather straw for themselves. ⁸ And the number of the bricks, which they did make before, you shall lay upon them; you shall not diminish any of them: for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

¹⁵ Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Why dealt you thus with your servants? ¹⁶ There is no straw given unto your servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people. ¹⁷ But he said, you are idle, you are idle: therefore you say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD. ¹⁸ Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall you deliver the number of bricks. ¹⁹ And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in an evil plight, after it was said, you shall not reduce any from your bricks of your daily task.

³ And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and for twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

⁷ He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the shouts of the driver.

³ And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear, and from the hard bondage in which you were made to serve. ⁴ That you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How has the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

² Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. ¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah. ¹⁶ Be not afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ¹⁷ For when he dies he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. ¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise you, when you do well for yourself. ¹⁹ He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. ²⁰ Man that is in honor, and understands not, is like the beasts that perish.

⁵ Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and terrors are in the way, and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets:

⁷ Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

²⁷ And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

¹⁰ And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept bitterly.

²⁷ And when she came to the man of God at the mountain, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is bitter within her: and the LORD has hid it from me, and has not told me.

⁹ Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

¹⁵ So that my soul chooses strangling, and death rather than my life. ¹⁶ I loathe it; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days are vanity.

²⁷ Why say you, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is passed over by my God?

⁷ He has hedged me in, that I cannot get out: he has made my chain heavy.

⁹ He has enclosed my ways with hewn stone, he has made my paths crooked.

⁶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and make a wall, so that she shall not find her paths.

⁷ The things that my soul refused to touch are as loathsome food to me.

¹⁹ How long will you not look away from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?

¹⁴ Then you scare me with dreams, and terrify me through visions:

⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him?

¹¹ Revive me, O LORD, for your name's sake: for your righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.
