¹⁴ Yet his food in his body is soured, it is the gall of asps within him.

²⁴ They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of animals upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

² And it came to pass in an evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. ³ And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? ⁴ And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. ⁵ And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife. ¹¹ Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them unto your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

³ When I kept silence, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. ⁴ For day and night your hand was heavy upon me: my strength is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

To bring to remembrance.] O LORD, rebuke me not in your wrath: neither chasten me in your hot displeasure. ² For your arrows stick fast in me, and your hand presses me down. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds are foul and are corrupt because of my foolishness. ⁶ I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. ⁷ For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸ I am feeble and utterly broken: I have groaned by reason of the turmoil of my heart.

⁸ Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which you have broken may rejoice. ⁹ Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

²⁰ Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of meat: ²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

²⁹ Who has woe? who has sorrow? who has contentions? who has babbling? who has wounds without cause? who has redness of eyes? ³⁰ They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. ³¹ Look not you upon the wine when it is red, when it gives its color in the cup, when it moves itself aright. ³² At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder. ³³ Your eyes shall behold strange things, and your heart shall utter perverse things. ³⁴ Yea, you shall be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lies upon the top of a mast. ³⁵ They have stricken me, you shall say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.

² If you will not hear, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, says the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart.
