¹ And Job answered and said, ² No doubt you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. ³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knows not such things as these? ⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls upon God, and he answers him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn. ⁵ He that is ready to slip with his feet is like a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. ⁶ The tents of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly. ⁷ But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you: ⁸ Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you: and the fish of the sea shall declare unto you. ⁹ Who knows not among all these that the hand of the LORD has done this? ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. ¹¹ Does not the ear test words? and the mouth taste its food? ¹² With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. ¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: he shuts up a man, and there can be no opening. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up: also he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counselors away plundered, and makes the judges fools. ¹⁸ He looses the bonds of kings, and girds their loins with a waistband. ¹⁹ He leads princes away plundered, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He takes away the speech of the trustworthy, and takes away the understanding of the aged. ²¹ He pours contempt upon princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty. ²² He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and destroys them: he enlarges the nations, and leads them away. ²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light, and he makes them to stagger like a drunken man.

²⁴ Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand how I have erred. ²⁵ How forceful are right words! but what does your arguing prove?

⁸ For inquire, I pray you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the findings of their fathers: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) ¹⁰ Shall not they teach you, and tell you, and utter words out of their heart?

² Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

⁶ And that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

¹² For a vain man will be wise, when a man is born a wild donkey’s colt.

² Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

⁴ For you have hidden their heart from understanding: therefore shall you not exalt them.

¹⁰ But as for you all, do you return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

³ I have heard the rebuke of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives him understanding. ⁹ Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand justice. ¹⁰ Therefore I say, Hearken to me; I also will show my opinion. ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, while you searched out what to say. ¹² Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words: ¹³ Lest you should say, We have found out wisdom: God vanquishes him, not man.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor that has understanding will find him out.

²¹ Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised.

⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? ⁶ Can that which is tasteless be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg? ⁷ The things that my soul refused to touch are as loathsome food to me.

² What you know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you. ³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value. ⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

² How have you helped him that is without power? how save you the arm that has no strength? ³ How have you counseled him that has no wisdom? and how have you plentifully declared the thing as it is? ⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like unto him.

⁵ For I suppose I was not the least behind the very chief apostles.

²¹ I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. But in whatsoever way any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also. ²² Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the descendants of Abraham? so am I. ²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes beyond measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often.

²⁹ Return, I pray you, let it not be injustice; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.

³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? and when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?

¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

²⁰ My friends scorn me: but my eye pours out tears unto God.

² Are there not mockers with me? and does not my eye continue in their provocation?

⁶ He has made me also a byword of the people; and I was as one before whom men spit.

³ Bear with me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

¹ But now they that are younger than I hold me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

⁷ All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, ⁸ He trusted in the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

¹⁶ With hypocritical mockers at feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

² He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.

³ Call unto me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.

⁷ Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

²⁹ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

⁴⁰ And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the child, and them that were with him, and entered in where the child was lying.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

³² And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear you again of this matter.

³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

³⁵ To me belongs vengeance, and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

⁵ Does the wild donkey bray when it has grass? or the ox lows over its fodder?

⁴ I also could speak as you do: if your soul were in my soul’s place, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

⁵ Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the flame of his fire shall not shine.

⁵ Hold up my steps in your paths, that my feet slip not.

¹⁸ When I said, My foot slips; your mercy, O LORD, held me up.

³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ Whosoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in utter darkness.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

¹ Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! ² Pass you unto Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? or their borders greater than your borders? ³ You that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; ⁴ That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch yourselves upon your couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; ⁵ That chant to the sound of the harp, and invent for yourselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶ That drink wine in bowls, and anoint yourselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁸ And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and feasted sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores,

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covers the faces of its judges; if not he, who then is it?

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power? ⁸ Their descendants are established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰ Their bull breeds, and fails not; their cow calves, and casts not her calf. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the flute. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁴ From men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life, and whose belly you fill with your hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious of the workers of iniquity.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

¹¹ And they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? ¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they have become great, and grown rich.

²⁹ Have you not asked them that go by the way? and do you not know their evidences, ³⁰ That the wicked are reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib: but Israel does not know, my people do not consider.

⁷ Yea, the stork in the heavens knows her appointed times; and the turtledove and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the law of the LORD.

¹⁷ And you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. ¹⁸ But you shall remember the LORD your God: for it is he that gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto your fathers, as it is this day.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up.

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knows not such things as these?

²⁰ That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.

⁵ I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed right unto me. ⁶ And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.

¹⁸ O king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor:

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of your servant, and his supplications, and cause your face to shine upon your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

³⁵ And when the town clerk had quieted the people, he said, You men of Ephesus, what man is there that knows not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshiper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

³⁶ For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him? ⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judges? ⁷ Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by which you are called?

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

¹⁷ And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die.

²² And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?

³ All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

⁴ The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life.

¹⁴ If he should set his heart upon man, if he should gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; ¹⁵ All flesh would perish together, and man would turn again unto dust.

²⁹ You hide your face, they are troubled: you take away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

³ Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁴ His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

²³ But have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, have you not glorified:

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

²⁵ Neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he gives to all life, and breath, and all things;

²⁸ For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

³⁰ Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?

³ For the ear tests words, as the mouth tastes food.

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; judge what I say.

¹⁰ That you may approve things that are excellent; that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ;

¹⁴ But solid food belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

³ If so be you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

⁸ For inquire, I pray you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the findings of their fathers:

¹⁰ With us are both the gray headed and very aged men, much older than your father.

⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the fowls of the air. ²² Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears. ²³ God understands its way, and he knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven; ²⁵ To make the weight for the wind; and he apportions the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: ²⁷ Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. ²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and you are very old; therefore I was afraid, and dared not show you my opinion. ⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives him understanding. ⁹ Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand justice.

⁵ Behold, God is mighty, and despises no one: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? or who has given understanding to the heart?

⁵ Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a shield to them that walk uprightly.

¹⁴ Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

¹³ Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counselor has taught him? ¹⁴ With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

¹⁰ Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

¹² He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens at his discretion.

²⁰ Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God forever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to contradict nor resist.

³⁴ For who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counselor?

²⁴ But unto them who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

⁸ Which he has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will:

¹⁸ And you have shown this day how that you have dealt well with me: for when the LORD had delivered me into your hand, you killed me not.

⁸ Then said Abishai to David, God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day: now therefore let me strike him, I pray you, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not strike him the second time.

¹² Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What do you? ¹³ If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do bow before him.

¹⁰ If he cuts off, and shuts up, or gathers together, then who can hinder him?

¹¹ God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree.

⁷ He seals up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

²³ I will also make it a possession for the owls, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says the LORD of hosts.

²² And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

² For you have made of a city a heap; of a fortified city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.

⁵⁸ Thus says the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labor in vain, and the nations, because of the fire, and they shall be weary.

⁶⁴ And you shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁴ If Edom says, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus says the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has indignation forever.

³² For God has concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things says he that is holy, he that is true, he that has the key of David, he that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens;

¹³ And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

¹⁷ And then the LORD'S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest you perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD gives you.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

⁷ At your rebuke they fled; at the voice of your thunder they hastened away. ⁸ They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which you have founded for them. ⁹ You have set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

²² Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? are not you he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon you: for you have made all these things.

⁸ Seek him that makes the seven stars and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night: that calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

⁴ He rebukes the sea, and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers: Bashan withers, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon fades.

²⁵ But I tell you a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

¹⁷ Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit.

⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

²² And the LORD said unto him, By what means? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding.

⁷ Will you speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?

⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocks another, do you so mock him?

⁹ And if the prophet is deceived when he has spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

³¹ And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had purposed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, and arose, and got him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.

¹⁴ With kings and counselors of the earth, who built desolate places for themselves;

¹² Where are they? where are your wise men? and let them tell you now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed upon Egypt. ¹³ The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Memphis are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the cornerstones of its tribes. ¹⁴ The LORD has mixed a perverse spirit in its midst: and they have caused Egypt to err in her every work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹¹ Therefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, and bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in affliction, he sought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, ¹³ And prayed unto him: and he received his entreaty, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God. ¹⁴ Now after this he built a wall outside the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance of the fish gate, and enclosed Ophel, and raised it up to a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fortified cities of Judah.

¹⁶ O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, and the son of your handmaid: you have loosed my bonds.

³¹ And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the five and twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison, ³² And spoke kindly unto him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon, ³³ And changed his prison garments: and he did continually eat bread before him all the days of his life. ³⁴ And for his provision, there was a regular ration given him from the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

¹⁶ And he has on his robe and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

²⁴ And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war who went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

⁴² And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

⁴⁵ Then said David to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. ⁴⁶ This day will the LORD deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from you; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

²² He draws also the mighty with his power: he rises up, but no man is sure of life.

²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.

⁹ Because of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out because of the arm of the mighty.

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and struck in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead corpses. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

¹ Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the armor of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

¹⁴ These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshiped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

⁹ Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand justice.

¹⁷ Because God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has he imparted to her understanding.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for lack of wisdom.

¹⁹ The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

²² Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

¹ For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, does take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stock and the store, the whole supply of bread, and the whole supply of water. ² The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the elder, ³ The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the skilled craftsman, and the eloquent orator.

² And if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your borders with frogs:

²⁴ And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it.

²³ And of Jezebel also spoke the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. ²⁴ He that dies of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and he that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

²⁶ Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, says the LORD; and I will repay you in this plot, says the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plot of ground, according to the word of the LORD.

³⁴ And when he had come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king’s daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ Therefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the territory of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel: ³⁷ And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as refuse upon the face of the field in the territory of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

⁴⁰ He pours contempt upon princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the belt on their waist be loosed, nor the strap of their shoes be broken:

⁵ And righteousness shall be the belt of his loins, and faithfulness the belt of his waist.

²¹ And I will clothe him with your robe, and strengthen him with your belt, and I will commit your authority into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

⁹ The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to defile the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.

²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the exalted ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. ²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be punished.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: ²² He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make you to eat grass like oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will. ³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair had grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹² And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. ¹³ And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and remain there until I bring you word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and died.

¹⁰ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

¹² And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one recognizes them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the fowls of the air. ²² Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears. ²³ God understands its way, and he knows its place.

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

²¹ Shall not God search this out? for he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹² Yea, the darkness hides not from you; but the night shines as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to you.

²² He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

²⁶ Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

⁷⁹ To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

¹⁰ But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

⁷ And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

²⁰ Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.

³⁸ He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and permits not their cattle to decrease.

³ You have multiplied the nation, and increased the joy: they joy before you according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

¹⁵ You have increased the nation, O LORD, you have increased the nation: you are glorified: you have enlarged all the borders of the land.

⁶ He shall cause them that come from Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

² Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bore you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.

²² A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in its time.

¹⁹ And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

²² As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the descendants of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.

⁸ I will signal for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they shall increase as they once increased.

²⁰ He takes away the speech of the trustworthy, and takes away the understanding of the aged.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

⁹ And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear you indeed, but understand not; and see you indeed, but perceive not. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people dull, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and return, and be healed.

¹ The burden concerning Egypt. Behold, the LORD rides upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall tremble at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.

¹⁶ Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him: and let seven times pass over him.

³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair had grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹¹ Ephraim also is like a silly dove without sense: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

¹¹ And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves trying to find the door.

²⁹ And you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways: and you shall be only oppressed and plundered continually, and no man shall save you.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

²⁷ They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.

¹⁴ The LORD has mixed a perverse spirit in its midst: and they have caused Egypt to err in her every work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

²⁰ The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a hut; and its transgression shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; we are in desolate places as dead men.

¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

¹¹ But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.
