¹ Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said, ² Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified? ³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? and when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed? ⁴ For you have said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in your eyes. ⁵ But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you; ⁶ And that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves. ⁷ Can you by searching find out God? can you find out the limits of the Almighty? ⁸ It is as high as heaven; what can you do? deeper than Sheol; what can you know? ⁹ The measure of it is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea. ¹⁰ If he cuts off, and shuts up, or gathers together, then who can hinder him? ¹¹ For he knows vain men: he sees wickedness also; will he not then consider it? ¹² For a vain man will be wise, when a man is born a wild donkey’s colt. ¹³ If you prepare your heart, and stretch out your hands toward him; ¹⁴ If iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tents. ¹⁵ For then shall you lift up your face without spot; yea, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear: ¹⁶ Because you shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: ¹⁷ And your life shall be brighter than the noonday; you shall shine forth, you shall be as the morning. ¹⁸ And you shall be secure, because there is hope; yea, you shall dig about you, and take your rest in safety. ¹⁹ Also you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid; yea, many shall entreat your favor. ²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as one dying.

¹¹ Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

¹ Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

² How long will you speak these things? and how long shall the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?

³ Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldens you that you answer?

² How long will it be before you make an end of words? consider, and afterwards we will speak.

¹¹ Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words there lacks not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? Others, He seems to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger:

⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls upon God, and he answers him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocks another, do you so mock him?

² Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? ³ Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches with which he can do no good?

² Are there not mockers with me? and does not my eye continue in their provocation?

³ Bear with me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

²⁵ And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech worth nothing?

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorn like water?

¹⁶ With hypocritical mockers at feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

¹⁶ Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek your name, O LORD.

¹⁷ I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of your hand: for you have filled me with indignation.

¹⁴ And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

⁸ Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is an opponent may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

¹⁸ How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

¹⁰ Then should I still have comfort; yea, I would exult myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

²⁹ Return, I pray you, let it not be injustice; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it. ³⁰ Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?

²⁰ I have sinned; what shall I do unto you, O you preserver of men? why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself?

² I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just before God? ³ If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of your hand.

⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? no one.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous: and God has taken away my justice. ⁶ Should I lie concerning my right? my wound is incurable though I am without transgression.

² Think you this to be right, that you said, My righteousness is more than God’s?

¹⁵ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might reason with him; so should I be delivered forever from my judge.

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book.

⁶ Behold, I am according to your wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay. ⁷ Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon you. ⁸ Surely you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying, ⁹ I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me. ¹⁰ Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy, ¹¹ He puts my feet in the stocks, he marks all my paths. ¹² Behold, in this you are not just: I will answer you, for God is greater than man. ¹³ Why do you strive against him? for he gives not account of any of his matters. ¹⁴ For God speaks once, yea twice, yet man perceives it not. ¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; ¹⁶ Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, ¹⁷ That he may turn man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. ¹⁸ He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ² Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

¹ Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, ² Shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproves God, let him answer it. ³ Then Job answered the LORD, and said, ⁴ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

⁸ Will you also annul my judgment? will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

²⁹ The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

¹³ And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that you our God has punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and has given us such deliverance as this;

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

⁵ For your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.

⁸ Have you heard the council of God? and do you limit wisdom to yourself?

¹¹ Are the consolations of God too small for you? on the word that deals gently with you?

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁴ The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.

¹⁰ He has not dealt with us according to our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

⁴³ Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. ⁴⁴ Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry: ⁴⁵ And he remembered for them his covenant, and relented according to the multitude of his mercies. ⁴⁶ He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

²² It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

²⁸ But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, are these;

⁴⁷ The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is God of gods, and Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret.

³⁵ That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

²⁵ Now to him who is able to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, ²⁶ But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

⁹ But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him. ¹⁰ But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. ¹¹ For what man knows the things of a man, except the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God.

⁵ Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

⁹ Who does great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number:

¹⁴ Lo, these are only parts of his ways: and how little a whisper is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

²³ As for the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in abundant justice: he will not afflict.

¹⁹ Your way is in the sea, and your path in the great waters, and your footsteps are not known.

³ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

¹¹ He has made every thing beautiful in its time: also he has put eternity in men’s hearts, so that no man can find out the work that God does from the beginning to the end.

²⁸ Have you not known? have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

²⁷ All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knows the Son, but the Father; neither knows any man the Father, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son will reveal him.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

¹⁰ But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.

¹⁶ For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

¹⁸ But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house which I have built!

¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and destruction has no covering.

⁵ Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than you.

¹¹ For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. ⁷ Where shall I go from your Spirit? or where shall I flee from your presence? ⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, you are there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there.

¹³ Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

² It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter. ³ The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

² Though they dig into sheol, there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, there will I bring them down:

¹⁸ May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; ¹⁹ And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.

²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven; ²⁵ To make the weight for the wind; and he apportions the waters by measure.

⁵ By awesome deeds in righteousness will you answer us, O God of our salvation; who is the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea: ⁶ Who by his strength established the mountains; being girded with power: ⁷ Who stills the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people. ⁸ They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at your signs: you make the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

⁹ If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; ¹⁰ Even there shall your hand lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had given them up?

¹⁸ For he bruises, and binds up: he wounds, and his hands make whole.

¹² Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What do you? ¹³ If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do bow before him.

¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: he shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.

²⁹ When he gives quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hides his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

⁸ And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: you have set my feet in a wide place.

²⁷ The first shall say to Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that brings good tidings.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can restrain his hand, or say unto him, What do you?

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things says he that is holy, he that is true, he that has the key of David, he that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens;

¹³ And you say, How does God know? can he judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circle of heaven.

²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps. ²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. ²³ For he will not lay upon man more than what is right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten: he hides his face; he will never see it.

¹⁴ You have seen it: for you behold mischief and spite, to repay it with your hand: the poor commits himself unto you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

²² This you have seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O LORD, be not far from me.

¹¹ The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of justice and righteousness in a province, marvel not at the matter: for the high official is watched by a higher one; and there are yet higher ones over them.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? ¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

² And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own deeds have surrounded them; they are before my face.

¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and can not look on iniquity: why do you look upon them that deal treacherously, and hold your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he?

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, ²⁵ And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the cunning is quickly ended.

⁵ Does the wild donkey bray when it has grass? or the ox lows over its fodder?

² No doubt you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. ³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knows not such things as these?

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be clean? and he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

⁵ Who has let the wild donkey go free? or who has loosed the bonds of the wild donkey? ⁶ Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings. ⁷ He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the shouts of the driver. ⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.

⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: if laid on the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. ¹⁰ Trust not in oppression, and hope not vainly in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

²² So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before you.

⁶ A senseless man knows not; neither does a fool understand this.

² Surely I am more senseless than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. ³ I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. ⁴ Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the waters in a garment? who has established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if you can tell?

¹⁸ I said in my heart concerning the condition of the sons of men, that God might reveal them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

²⁴ A wild donkey used to the wilderness, that sniffs in the wind in her desire; in her mating time who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

¹⁶ Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness. ²⁰ And again, The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

³ Among whom also we all had our behavior in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

²⁰ But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good life his works with meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not, and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

³ And Samuel spoke unto all the house of Israel, saying, If you do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

¹⁴ And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

³ Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have taken away the idol poles out of the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.

⁸ I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

⁵ If you would seek unto God early, and make your supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ If you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.

²¹ Acquaint now yourself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto you. ²² Receive, I pray you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.

³¹ Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God.

⁸ And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

⁹ My eye mourns by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon you, I have stretched out my hands unto you.

⁶ I stretch forth my hands unto you: my soul thirsts after you, as a thirsty land. Selah.

⁴⁷ And that servant, who knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

⁷ Remember, I pray you, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

⁵ Is not your wickedness great? and your iniquities without end?

²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tents.

³² That which I see not you teach me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when will you come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

¹⁵ And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: yea, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, says the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away from you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, O house of Israel?

³ Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that steals shall be cut off according to the writing on this side; and every one that swears falsely shall be cut off according to the writing on that side. ⁴ I will bring it forth, says the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

⁵ But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. ⁶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Why are you angry? and why is your countenance fallen?

¹⁵ If I am wicked, woe unto me; and if I am righteous, yet can I not lift up my head. I am full of disgrace; therefore see my affliction;

²⁶ For then shall you have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face unto God.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

¹ [To the Chief Musician for the sons of Korah. A song upon alamoth.] God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved forever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. ⁷ He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

⁶ Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all your commandments. ⁷ I will praise you with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned your righteous judgments.

²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

¹ The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁸ I desire therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

¹⁹ And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. ²⁰ For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemns us not, then have we confidence toward God. ²² And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹¹ And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.

¹⁵ My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks that pass away;

¹¹ Or darkness, that you can not see; and abundance of waters cover you.

⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

²⁰ For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart.

¹ And in that day you shall say, O LORD, I will praise you: though you were angry with me, your anger is turned away, and you comforted me. ² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation.

⁴ Fear not; for you shall not be ashamed: neither be you confounded; for you shall not be put to shame: for you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood any more.

⁹ For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.

¹⁶ That he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from my eyes.

²¹ A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour has come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

¹⁴ And I said unto him, Sir, you know. And he said to me, These are they who came out of the great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun strike them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

¹⁰ Therefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be you, LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

¹¹ Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they consoled him, and comforted him over all the trouble that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and everyone a ring of gold. ¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys. ¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. ¹⁶ After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations. ¹⁷ So Job died, being old and full of days.

⁶ And he shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be healthy and flourishing;

⁴ Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day.

⁸ Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. ⁹ Then shall you call, and the LORD shall answer; you shall cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness; ¹⁰ And if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light rise in the darkness, and your darkness be as the noon day:

³ Let us know, let us press on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause, and executes justice for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

⁶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: ⁷ But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up like calves of the stall.

²⁶ And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. ²⁷ And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, ²⁸ Then he took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, ²⁹ Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word: ³⁰ For my eyes have seen your salvation, ³¹ Which you have prepared before the face of all people; ³² A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.

⁵ And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. ⁶ And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil animals out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

¹¹ What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

²⁷ You shall make your prayer unto him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows. ²⁸ You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established for you: and the light shall shine upon your ways. ²⁹ When men are cast down, then you shall say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

⁵ I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

⁸ I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for you, LORD, only make me dwell in safety.

⁵ Why are you cast down, O my soul? and why are you disturbed within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

²⁴ When you lie down, you shall not be afraid: yea, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet. ²⁵ Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the ruin from the wicked, when it comes. ²⁶ For the LORD shall be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being snared.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

³ And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation works patience; ⁴ And patience, experience; and experience, hope: ⁵ And hope makes not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who is given unto us.

²⁷ To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

²⁶ Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phicol the chief captain of his army. ²⁷ And Isaac said unto them, Why come you to me, seeing you hate me, and have sent me away from you? ²⁸ And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with you: and we said, Let there be now an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you; ²⁹ That you will do us no hurt, as we have not touched you, and as we have done unto you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace: you are now the blessed of the LORD. ³⁰ And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink. ³¹ And they rose up early in the morning, and swore one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

⁶ And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil animals out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

⁸ Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. ⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.

¹² And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat your favor.

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.

¹⁴ Thus says the LORD, The labor of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto you, and they shall be yours: they shall come after you; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto you, they shall make supplication unto you, saying, Surely God is in you; and there is none else, there is no other God.

¹⁴ The sons also of them that afflicted you shall come bending low unto you; and all they that despised you shall bow themselves down at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

⁹ Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

¹⁶ I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning fever, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

⁶⁵ And among these nations shall you find no ease, neither shall the sole of your foot have rest: but the LORD shall give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish: ¹⁴ Whose confidence shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider’s web.

⁵ He that speaks flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tent, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul?

²² For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would scarcely flee out of his hand.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

³ I am weary from my crying: my throat is dried: my eyes fail while I wait for my God.

²⁴ The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁰ Whosoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in utter darkness.

¹⁷ As for us, our eyes as yet failed, watching for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

¹⁴ Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his power, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:

¹⁹ As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. ²⁰ Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

¹ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Strike the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and break them on the heads of all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that flees of them shall not flee away, and he that escapes of them shall not be delivered. ² Though they dig into sheol, there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, there will I bring them down: ³ And though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, I will search and take them from there; and though they are hidden from my sight in the bottom of the sea, there will I command the serpent, and it shall bite them:

²³ And in hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.

³ How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
