¹³ And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:

²⁷ And the boys grew: and Esau was a skilful hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. ²⁸ And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. ²⁹ And Jacob boiled pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: ³⁰ And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray you, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. ³¹ And Jacob said, Sell me this day your birthright. ³² And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point of death: and what profit shall this birthright be to me? ³³ And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he swore unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. ³⁴ Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

³ And Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more blameless than the Philistines, though I do them harm.

²³ And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king’s sons. ²⁴ And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, your servant has sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech you, and his servants go with your servant. ²⁵ And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto you. And he pressed him: however he would not go, but blessed him. ²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I pray you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him. ²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark you now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Strike Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant. ²⁹ And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man got him up upon his mule, and fled.

⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

⁷ Will you speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?

² They speak vanity every one with his neighbor: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

¹³ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall escape from trouble.

¹⁸ There is one that speaks like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise brings health. ¹⁹ The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. ²⁰ Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace there is joy.

²⁸ Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause; and deceive not with your lips. ²⁹ Say not, I will do so to him as he has done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

²⁴ He that hates disguises it with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself; ²⁵ When he speaks graciously, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Whosoever’s hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be revealed before the whole assembly.

¹³ In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

² The godly man has perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

¹³ Saying, Say this, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.

¹⁹ Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.

¹⁵ See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
