¹ The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

⁴² And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. ⁴³ And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

³⁰ And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

¹⁷ But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. ¹⁸ Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram who was over the forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, so that he died. But king Rehoboam made haste to get himself up into his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. ¹⁹ And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

⁷ And you have also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning you at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.

⁹ I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not restrained my lips, O LORD, you know.

¹² I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

²⁷ Behold, this have I found, says the preacher, adding one thing to another, to find out the reason:

⁸ Vanity of vanities, says the preacher; all is vanity. ⁹ And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The preacher sought to find acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

¹ The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

² Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid you.

⁵ And spared not the ancient world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
