⁷ because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:

⁵ thou shalt not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me;

² And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat: 'Shouldest thou help the wicked, and love them that hate the LORD? for this thing wrath is upon thee from before the LORD.

²³ Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

¹⁹ Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

³⁴ Ye offspring of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.

²³ He that hateth me hateth my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which none other did, they had not had sin; but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

²⁸ And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting,

³⁰ backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

³¹ Do we then make the law of none effect through faith? God forbid; nay, we establish the law.

¹⁰ For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life,

⁷ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law; for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet: ⁸ but sin, finding occasion, wrought in me through the commandment all manner of coveting; for apart from the law sin is dead. ⁹ And I was alive apart from the law once; but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died, ¹⁰ and the commandment, which was unto life, this I found to be unto death: ¹¹ for sin, finding occasion, through the commandment beguiled me, and through it slew me. ¹² So that the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good. ¹³ Did then that which is good become death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good,—that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful. ¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin.

²² For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

⁴ that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

¹⁴ Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him, and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.

²¹ to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ meekness, self-control, against such there is no law.

¹⁸ being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart, ¹⁹ who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

²¹ And you, being in time past alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works,

⁴ traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their mind, And on their heart also will I write them; And I will be to them a God, And they shall be to me a people:

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God.

¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstedfast souls, having a heart exercised in covetousness, children of cursing, ¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
