⁸ Therefore in one day shall her plagues come, death, and mourning, and famine, and she shall be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judged her.

¹⁹ If it be a matter of strength, lo, He is mighty! and if of justice, who will appoint me a time?

¹¹ (62:12) God hath spoken once, twice have I heard this: that strength belongeth unto God;

¹ In that day the LORD with His sore and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the slant serpent, and leviathan the tortuous serpent; and He will slay the dragon that is in the sea.

⁹ But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood; in their full measure shall they come upon thee, for the multitude of thy sorceries, and the great abundance of thine enchantments. ¹⁰ And thou hast been secure in thy wickedness, thou hast said: 'None seeth me'; thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thy heart. 'I am, and there is none else beside me.' ¹¹ Yet shall evil came upon thee; thou shalt not know how to charm it away; and calamity shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it away; and ruin shall come upon thee suddenly, before thou knowest.

³¹ Behold, I am against thee, O thou most arrogant, saith the Lord GOD of hosts; for thy day is come, the time that I will punish thee.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong, the LORD of hosts is His name; He will thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the earth, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

⁶ Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and save every man his life, be not cut off in her iniquity; for it is the time of the LORD'S vengeance; He will render unto her a recompense.

⁵⁸ Thus saith the LORD of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labour for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.

²² Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

¹⁷ saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast, because thou hast taken thy great power, and didst reign.

¹⁶ And the ten horns which thou sawest, and the beast, these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate, and shall make her naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her utterly with fire.

¹⁸ And the woman whom thou sawest is the great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

⁹ And the kings of the earth, who committed fornication and lived wantonly with her, shall weep and wail over her, when they look upon the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

¹⁷ for in an hour so great riches is made desolate. And every shipmaster, and every one that saileth any wither, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood afar off,

¹⁹ And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, and aying, Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all that had the ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

³ And a second time they say, Hallelujah. And her smoke goeth up for ever and ever.
