⁴ (52:6) Thou lovest all devouring words, the deceitful tongue.

¹⁸ And the king said to Doeg: 'Turn thou, and fall upon the priests.' And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and he slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod. ¹⁹ And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen and asses and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

³ What shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee, thou deceitful tongue?

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity. Thus is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, it is full of deadly poison. ⁹ Therewith bless we the God and Father, and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God:
