² For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

⁹ And God said: 'Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear.' And it was so. ¹⁰ And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas; and God saw that it was good.

²² While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.'

⁴ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast the understanding.

⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, and issued out of the womb; ⁹ When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it, ¹⁰ And prescribed for it My decree, and set bars and doors, ¹¹ And said: 'Thus far shalt thou come, but no further; and here shall thy proud waves be stayed'?

⁶ By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

¹ The LORD reigneth; He is clothed in majesty; the LORD is clothed, He hath girded Himself with strength; yea, the world is established, that it cannot be moved.

⁴ In whose hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are His also.

¹⁰ Say among the nations: 'The LORD reigneth.' The world also is established that it cannot be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity.

⁵ Who didst establish the earth upon its foundations, that it should not be moved for ever and ever; ⁶ Thou didst cover it with the deep as with a vesture; the waters stood above the mountains.

⁶ To Him that spread forth the earth above the waters, for His mercy endureth for ever.

²² Fear ye not Me? saith the LORD; Will ye not tremble at My presence? Who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, an everlasting ordinance, which it cannot pass; and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it.

¹¹ Thus shall ye say unto them: 'The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.' ¹² He that hath made the earth by His power, that hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His understanding; ¹³ At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, when He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; when He maketh lightnings with the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries; ¹⁴ Every man is proved to be brutish, without knowledge, every goldsmith is put to shame by the graven image, his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. ¹⁵ They are vanity, a work of delusion; in the time of their visitation they shall perish. ¹⁶ Not like these is the portion of Jacob; for He is the former of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; the LORD of hosts is His name.

⁵ For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God, ⁶ by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: ⁷ but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by his word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
