⁷ Who causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings for the rain; He bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries.

⁵ No shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground; ⁶ but there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

¹ And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah, in the third year, saying: 'Go, show thyself unto Ahab, and I will send rain upon the land.'

⁴¹ And Elijah said unto Ahab: 'Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.' ⁴² So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees. ⁴³ And he said to his servant: 'Go up now, look toward the sea.' And he went up, and looked, and said: 'There is nothing.' And he said: 'Go again seven times.' ⁴⁴ And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said: 'Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a man's hand.' And he said: 'Go up, say unto Ahab: Make ready thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.' ⁴⁵ And it came to pass in a little while, that the heaven grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

¹⁰ Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields;

²⁵ When He maketh a weight for the wind, and meteth out the waters by measure. ²⁶ When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the storm of thunders;

²² Hast thou entered the treasuries of the snow, or hast thou seen the treasuries of the hail, ²³ Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? ²⁴ By what way is the light parted, or the east wind scattered upon the earth? ²⁵ Who hath cleft a channel for the waterflood, or a way for the lightning of the thunder; ²⁶ To cause it to rain on a land where no man is, on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; ²⁷ To satisfy the desolate and waste ground, and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? ²⁸ Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

²⁵ For He commanded, and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves thereof;

⁸ Fire and hail, snow and vapour, stormy wind, fulfilling His word;

¹³ At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, when He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; when He maketh lightnings with the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries;

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O LORD our God, and do we not wait for Thee? For Thou hast made all these things.

¹⁶ At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings at the time of the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries;

⁴ But the LORD hurled a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

¹ Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain, even of the LORD that maketh lightnings; and He will give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

⁸ The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the voice thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
