¹ Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.

⁷ And the LORD said: 'I have surely seen the affliction of My people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their pains;

²⁵ (22:24) If thou lend money to any of My people, even to the poor with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a creditor; neither shall ye lay upon him interest. ²⁶ (22:25) If thou at all take thy neighbour's garment to pledge, thou shalt restore it unto him by that the sun goeth down; ²⁷ (22:26) for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin; wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto Me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

³⁵ And if thy brother be waxen poor, and his means fail with thee; then thou shalt uphold him: as a stranger and a settler shall he live with thee. ³⁶ Take thou no interest of him or increase; but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee. ³⁷ Thou shalt not give him thy money upon interest, nor give him thy victuals for increase.

⁷ If there be among you a needy man, one of thy brethren, within any of thy gates, in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy needy brother; ⁸ but thou shalt surely open thy hand unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need in that which he wanteth. ⁹ Beware that there be not a base thought in thy heart, saying: 'The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand'; and thine eye be evil against thy needy brother, and thou give him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin in thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him; because that for this thing the LORD thy God will bless thee in all thy work, and in all that thou puttest thy hand unto. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore I command thee, saying: 'Thou shalt surely open thy hand unto thy poor and needy brother, in thy land.'

³⁸ If my land cry out against me, and the furrows thereof weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the tillers thereof to be disappointed -

²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto Him, and He heareth the cry of the afflicted.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah the plant of His delight; and He looked for justice, but behold violence; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

⁷ And shall not God avenge his elect, that cry to him day and night, and yet he is longsuffering over them?

²⁶ And the day following he appeared unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren, why do ye wrong one to another?

⁶ but brother goeth to law with brother, and that before unbelievers? ⁷ Nay, already it is altogether a defect in you, that ye have lawsuits one with another. Why not rather take wrong? why not rather be defrauded? ⁸ Nay, but ye yourselves do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out; and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
