³ And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing in the marketplace idle,

¹⁵ Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and careless ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

¹⁶ But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, and calling unto their fellows, ¹⁷ and saying, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance, we wailed unto you, and ye did not mourn.

⁶ And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? ⁷ They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right shall ye receive.

²⁵ And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day,

¹⁷ So he reasoned in the synagogue with Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with them that met him. ¹⁸ And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods; because he preached Jesus and the resurrection. ¹⁹ And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee? ²⁰ For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears; we would know therefore what these things mean. ²¹ (Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)

¹³ And withal they learn also to be idle, going about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

¹² that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
