⁹ And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition.

¹⁰ And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and saw the altar that was at Damascus; and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship thereof. ¹¹ And Urijah the priest built an altar; according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so did Urijah the priest make it against the coming of king Ahaz from Damascus. ¹² And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the altar; and the king drew near unto the altar, and offered thereon. ¹³ And he offered his burnt-offering and his meal-offering, and poured his drink-offering, and dashed the blood of his peace- offerings against the altar. ¹⁴ And the brazen altar, which was before the LORD, he brought from the forefront of the house, from between his altar and the house of the LORD, and put it on the north side of his altar. ¹⁵ And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying: 'Upon the great altar offer the morning burnt-offering, and the evening meal-offering, and the king's burnt-offering, and his meal-offering, with the burnt-offering of all the people of the land, and their meal-offering, and their drink-offerings; and dash against it all the blood of the burnt-offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice; but the brazen altar shall be for me to look to.' ¹⁶ Thus did Urijah the priest, according to all that king Ahaz commanded.

¹²⁶ It is time for the LORD to work; they have made void Thy law.

⁵ The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statute, broken the everlasting covenant.

¹³ And the Lord said: Forasmuch as this people draw near, and with their mouth and with their lips do honour Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear of Me is a commandment of men learned by rote;

¹⁶ 'As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. ¹⁷ But we will certainly perform every word that is gone forth out of our mouth, to offer unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

²⁵ And he shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High; and he shall think to change the seasons and the law; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and half a time.

³⁶ And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak strange things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done.

³ And he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? ⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death. ⁵ But ye say, whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is given to God, he shall not honor his father or his mother. ⁶ And ye have made void the commandment of God because of your tradition.

³ (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands diligently, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders,

¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered; and many such like things ye do.

³¹ Do we then make the law of none effect through faith? God forbid; nay, we establish the law.

²¹ I do not make void the grace of God; for if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nought.

⁴ he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God as God, setting himself forth as God.
