¹ And he spake a parable unto them to the end that one ought always to pray, and not to faint,

⁹ (32:10) And Jacob said: 'O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who saidst unto me: Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will do thee good; ¹⁰ (32:11) I am not worthy of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which Thou hast shown unto Thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two camps. ¹¹ (32:12) Deliver me, I pray Thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and smite me, the mother with the children. ¹² (32:13) And Thou saidst: I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.'

²⁴ (32:25) And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. ²⁵ (32:26) And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was strained, as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ (32:27) And he said: 'Let me go, for the day breaketh.' And he said: 'I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.'

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, though he get him gain, when God taketh away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry, when trouble cometh upon him? ¹⁰ Will he have his delight in the Almighty, and call upon God at all times?

¹³ If I had not believed to look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! -

¹⁶ (55:17) As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. ¹⁷ (55:18) Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I complain, and moan; and He hath heard my voice.

² (65:3) O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee doth all flesh come.

³ Be gracious unto me, O Lord; for unto Thee do I cry all the day.

¹⁷ (102:18) When He hath regarded the prayer of the destitute, and hath not despised their prayer.

⁵ (142:6) I have cried unto Thee, O LORD; I have said: 'Thou art my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.' ⁶ (142:7) Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors; for they are too strong for me. ⁷ (142:8) Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks unto Thy name; the righteous shall crown themselves because of me; for Thou wilt deal bountifully with me.

¹² And ye shall call upon Me, and go, and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you.

⁷ (2:8) When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thy holy temple.

⁵ And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves, ⁶ for a friend of mine is come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him, ⁷ and he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed, I cannot rise and give thee? ⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many as he needeth. ⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

³⁶ But watch ye at every season, making supplication, that ye may be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

¹² rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing stedfastly in prayer,

¹ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we faint not:

⁹ And let us not be weary in well-doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

¹⁸ with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

⁶ In nothing be anxious, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

² Continue stedfastly in prayer, watching therein with thanksgiving,

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, saluteth you, always striving for you in his prayers, that ye may stand perfect and fully supplied in all the will of God.

¹⁷ pray without ceasing,

³ For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against himself, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls. ⁴ Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin: ⁵ and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him,
