¹ Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was that had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

¹⁷ And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ there came unto him a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he sat at meat. ⁸ But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? ⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. ¹⁰ But Jesus perceiving it said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. ¹¹ For ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.

¹¹ And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple, and when he had looked round about upon all things, it being now eventide, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

³ And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster cruse of ointment of pure nard very costly, and she brake the cruse, and poured it over his head. ⁴ But there were some that had indignation among themselves, and saying, To what purpose hath this waste of the ointment been made? ⁵ For this might have been sold for above three hundred shillings, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her. ⁶ But Jesus said, Let her alone, why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. ⁷ For ye have the poor always with you, and whensoever ye will ye can do them good; but me ye have not always. ⁸ What she had, this woman hath done, she hath anointed my body beforehand for the burying.

⁵⁰ And he led them out until they were over against Bethany; and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

¹ Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

⁴⁴ He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁵⁵ Now the passover of the Jews was at hand; and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, to purify themselves.

²⁰ Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast:
