¹³ So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the pit; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

²⁷ and say: Thus saith the king: Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with scant bread and with scant water, until I come in peace.'

²¹ Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard, and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard; and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the pit there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

²⁸ So Jeremiah abode in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken. And it came to pass, when Jerusalem was taken -

¹⁴ they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home; so he dwelt among the people. ¹⁵ Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying: ¹⁶ 'Go, and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring My words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished before thee in that day. ¹⁷ But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD; and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. ¹⁸ For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee; because thou hast put thy trust in Me, saith the LORD.'

³⁵ I will hear thee fully, said he, when thine accusers also are come; and he commanded him to be kept in Herod's palace.

²³ And he gave order to the centurion that he should be kept in charge, and should have indulgence, and not to forbid any of his friends to minister or come unto him. ²⁴ But after certain days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁵ And as he reasoned of righteousness, and self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, Go thy way for this time, and when I have a convenient season, I will call thee unto me. ²⁶ He hoped withal that money would be given him of Paul, that he might loose him; wherefore also he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

¹⁶ And when we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard; but Paul was suffered to abide by himself with the soldier that guarded him.

³⁰ And he abode two whole years in his own hired dwelling, and received all that went in unto him,
