¹⁶ and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled, and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body, what doth it profit?

⁷ Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry. ⁸ And as a mighty man, who hath the earth, and as a man of rank, who dwelleth in it, ⁹ Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

²⁷ Withhold not good from him to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it. ²⁸ Say not unto thy neighbour: 'Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give'; when thou hast it by thee.

¹⁵ And when even was come, his disciples came to him, saying, The place is desert, and the time is already past, send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food. ¹⁶ But Jesus said unto them, They have no need to go away, give ye them to eat.

³² And Jesus called unto him his disciples, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I would not send them away fasting, lest haply they faint on the way.

⁴² for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat, I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink, ⁴³ I was a stranger, and ye took me not in, naked, and ye clothed me not, sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. ⁴⁴ Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? ⁴⁵ Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil, cleave to that which is good.

⁸ I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love.

¹⁶ Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whoso hath the world's goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My Little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue, but in deed and truth.
