¹² To whom it was said: 'This is the rest, give ye rest to the weary; and this is the refreshing'; yet they would not hear.

¹¹ (14:10) And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, there is none beside Thee to help, between the mighty and him that hath no strength; help us, O LORD our God; for we rely on Thee, and in Thy name are we come against this multitude. Thou art the LORD our God; let not man prevail against Thee.'

⁸ Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge host, with chariots and horsemen exceeding many? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, He delivered them into thy hand. ⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is whole toward Him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars.'

¹¹ (81:12) But My people hearkened not to My voice; and Israel would none of Me. ¹² (81:13) So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels. ¹³ (81:14) Oh that My people would hearken unto Me, that Israel would walk in My ways!

¹⁵ For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: in sitting still and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength; and ye would not.

¹⁶ Thus saith the LORD: Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said: 'We will not walk therein.'

¹⁶ 'As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

¹¹ But they refused to attend, and turned a stubborn shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.

¹⁴ but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned; for they laid the pleasant land desolate.'

²⁸ Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

²⁵ See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape who turn away from him that warneth from heaven:
