¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten unto ruin.

¹⁴ For the palace shall be forsaken; the city with its stir shall be deserted; the mound and the tower shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;

¹¹ (9:10) And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a lair of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without an inhabitant.

¹ How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! How is she become as a widow! She that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!

⁴ The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly; all her gates are desolate, her priests sigh; her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness.

⁹ Her gates are sunk into the ground; He hath destroyed and broken her bars; her king and her princes are among the nations, instruction is no more; yea, her prophets find no vision from the LORD.

¹⁸ For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.

⁹ For her wound is incurable; for it is come even unto Judah; it reacheth unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.

¹² For the inhabitant of Maroth waiteth anxiously for good; because evil is come down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem.

⁷ And when that king heard, he was wroth, and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
