¹⁸ And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit,

²¹ And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

³² Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.' ³³ And they made their father drink wine that night. And the first-born went in, and lay with her father; and he knew not when she lay down, nor when she arose. ³⁴ And it came to pass on the morrow, that the first-born said unto the younger: 'Behold, I lay yesternight with my father. Let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.' ³⁵ And they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose, and lay with him; and he knew not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

²⁰ and they shall say unto the elders of his city: 'This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he doth not hearken to our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.'

³ (63:4) For Thy lovingkindness is better than life; my lips shall praise Thee. ⁴ (63:5) So will I bless Thee as long as I live; in Thy name will I lift up my hands. ⁵ (63:6) My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth doth praise Thee with joyful lips;

¹ Wine is a mocker, strong drink is riotous; and whosoever reeleth thereby is not wise.

²⁰ Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of flesh; ²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

²⁹ Who crieth: 'Woe'? who: 'Alas'? who hath contentions? who hath raving? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? ³⁰ They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine. ³¹ Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it glideth down smoothly; ³² At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like a basilisk. ³³ Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thy heart shall utter confused things. ³⁴ Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. ³⁵ 'They have struck me, and I felt it not, they have beaten me, and I knew it not; when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.'

⁴ Draw me, we will run after thee; the king hath brought me into his chambers; we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will find thy love more fragrant than wine! sincerely do they love thee.

⁹ (7:10) And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine, that glideth down smoothly for my beloved, moving gently the lips of those that are asleep.'

¹¹ Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them! ¹² And the harp and the psaltery, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are in their feasts; but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither have they considered the operation of His hands. ¹³ Therefore My people are gone into captivity, for want of knowledge; and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude are parched with thirst.

²² Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink;

⁶ And in this mountain will the LORD of hosts make unto all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

¹ Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye for water, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

¹⁵ The LORD of hosts will defend them; and they shall devour, and shall tread down the sling-stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like the basins, like the corners of the altar. ¹⁶ And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of His people; for they shall be as the stones of a crown, glittering over His land. ¹⁷ For how great is their goodness, and how great is their beauty! Corn shall make the young men flourish, and new wine the maids.

²⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and unrighteousness.

⁴⁹ and shall begin to beat his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken,

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

⁴⁵ But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming, and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken,

³⁴ But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare;

¹³ But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine. ¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, saying, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words. ¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day, ¹⁶ but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel: ¹⁷ And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all flesh; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: ¹⁸ Yea and on My servants and on My handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

²⁴ for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith; and much people was added unto the Lord.

¹³ Let us walk becomingly, as in the day, not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy.

¹¹ but as it is, I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner, with such a one no, not to eat.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

²¹ for in your eating each one taketh before other his own supper, and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like, of which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ meekness, self-control, against such there is no law. ²⁴ And they that are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts thereof. ²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk.

⁷ For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that are drunken are drunken in the night.

⁶ if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children that believe, who are not accused of riot or unruly.

³ For the time of life past sufficeth us to work the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries: ⁴ wherein they think strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
