¹ When a man taketh a wife, and marrieth her, then it cometh to pass, if she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some unseemly thing in her, that he writeth her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house,

¹⁰ If he take him another wife, her food, her raiment, and her conjugal rights, shall he not diminish.

¹⁵ If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the first-born son be hers that was hated;

¹³ If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,

¹⁹ And they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel; and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

²⁹ then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he hath humbled her; he may not put her away all his days.

³ and the latter husband hateth her, and writeth her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, who took her to be his wife;

¹ Thus saith the LORD: Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, wherewith I have put her away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities were ye sold, and for your transgressions was your mother put away.

⁸ And I saw, when, forasmuch as backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, that yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot;

¹⁶ For I hate putting away, saith the LORD, the God of Israel, and him that covereth his garment with violence, saith the LORD of hosts; therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

¹⁹ And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

³¹ It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement; ³² but I say unto you, that whosoever putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery; and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.

⁷ They say unto him, Why then did Moses command to give a bill of divorcement, and to put her away? ⁸ He saith unto them, Moses for your hardness of heart suffered you to put away your wives; but from the beginning it hath not been so. ⁹ And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery; and he that marrieth her when she is put away committeth adultery.

⁴ And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. ⁵ And Jesus answered and said unto them, For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. ⁶ But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. ⁷ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, ⁸ and the two shall become one flesh; so that they are no more two, but one flesh. ⁹ What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. ¹⁰ And in the house the disciples asked him again of the same matter. ¹¹ And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her; ¹² and if a woman putteth away her husband, and is married to another, she committeth adultery.

¹⁸ Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery; and every one that marrieth one that is put away from a husband committeth adultery.

¹¹ (but should she depart, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband leave not his wife. ¹² But to the rest say I, not the Lord; If any brother hath an unbelieving wife, and she is content to dwell with him, let him not leave her.
