¹⁹ O Lord, hear, O Lord, forgive, O Lord, attend and do, defer not; for Thine own sake, O my God, because Thy name is called upon Thy city and Thy people.'

¹⁹ Pardon, I pray Thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of Thy lovingkindness, and according as Thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.'

³⁰ And hearken Thou to the supplication of Thy servant, and of Thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place; yea, hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling-place; and when Thou hearest, forgive. ³¹ If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be exacted of him to cause him to swear, and he come and swear before Thine altar in this house; ³² then hear Thou in heaven, and do, and judge Thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. ³³ When Thy people Israel are smitten down before the enemy, when they do sin against Thee, if they turn again to Thee, and confess Thy name, and pray and make supplication unto Thee in this house; ³⁴ then hear Thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of Thy people Israel, and bring them back unto the land which Thou gavest unto their fathers. ³⁵ When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, when they do sin against Thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess Thy name, and turn from their sin, when Thou dost afflict them; ³⁶ then hear Thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of Thy servants, and of Thy people Israel, when Thou teachest them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon Thy land, which Thou hast given to Thy people for an inheritance. ³⁷ If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be; ³⁸ what prayer and supplication soever be made by any man of all Thy people Israel, who shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house; ³⁹ then hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and do, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart Thou knowest - for Thou, even Thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men -

³⁹ then hear Thou from heaven, even from Thy dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause; and forgive Thy people who have sinned against Thee.

²³ (44:24) Awake, why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Arouse Thyself, cast not off for ever. ²⁴ (44:25) Wherefore hidest Thou Thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression? ²⁵ (44:26) For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth. ²⁶ (44:27) Arise for our help, and redeem us for Thy mercy's sake.

⁹ We see not our signs; there is no more any prophet; neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. ¹⁰ How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme Thy name for ever? ¹¹ Why withdrawest Thou Thy hand, even Thy right hand? Draw it out of Thy bosom and consume them.

⁵ How long, O LORD, wilt Thou be angry for ever? How long will Thy jealousy burn like fire? ⁶ Pour out Thy wrath upon the nations that know Thee not, and upon the kingdoms that call not upon Thy name.

⁸ Remember not against us the iniquities of our forefathers; let Thy compassions speedily come to meet us; for we are brought very low. ⁹ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the sake of the glory of Thy name; and deliver us, and forgive our sins, for Thy name's sake. ¹⁰ Wherefore should the nations say: 'Where is their God?' Let the avenging of Thy servants' blood that is shed be made known among the nations in our sight.

⁵ (85:6) Wilt Thou be angry with us for ever? Wilt Thou draw out Thine anger to all generations? ⁶ (85:7) Wilt Thou not quicken us again, that Thy people may rejoice in Thee?

¹³ (102:14) Thou wilt arise, and have compassion upon Zion; for it is time to be gracious unto her, for the appointed time is come. ¹⁴ (102:15) For Thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and love her dust. ¹⁵ (102:16) So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Thy glory; ¹⁶ (102:17) When the LORD hath built up Zion, when He hath appeared in His glory;

¹ Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy truth's sake. ² Wherefore should the nations say: 'Where is now their God?'

¹⁶ For Thou art our Father; for Abraham knoweth us not, and Israel doth not acknowledge us; Thou, O LORD, art our Father, our Redeemer from everlasting is Thy name. ¹⁷ O LORD, why dost Thou make us to err from Thy ways, and hardenest our heart from Thy fear? Return for Thy servants' sake, the tribes of Thine inheritance. ¹⁸ Thy holy people they have well nigh driven out, our adversaries have trodden down Thy sanctuary. ¹⁹ We are become as they over whom Thou never borest rule, as they that were not called by Thy name.

⁹ (64:8) Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever; behold, look, we beseech Thee, we are all Thy people. ¹⁰ (64:9) Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. ¹¹ (64:10) Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised Thee, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant things are laid waste. ¹² (64:11) Wilt Thou refrain Thyself for these things, O LORD? Wilt Thou hold Thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

⁷ Though our iniquities testify against us, O LORD, work Thou for Thy name's sake; for our backslidings are many, we have sinned against Thee.

⁹ Why shouldest thou be as a man overcome, as a mighty man that cannot save? Yet Thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and Thy name is called upon us; leave us not.

²⁰ We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, even the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against Thee. ²¹ Do not contemn us, for Thy name's sake, do not dishonour the throne of Thy glory; remember, break not Thy covenant with us.

²⁹ For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city whereupon My name is called, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁹ But I wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among whom they were, in whose sight I made Myself known unto them, so as to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁴ But I wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

²² Nevertheless I withdrew My hand, and wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.

²² Therefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord GOD: I do not this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which ye have profaned among the nations, whither ye came.

²⁵ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Now will I bring back the captivity of Jacob, and have compassion upon the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for My holy name.

¹⁸ O my God, incline Thine ear, and hear; open Thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city upon which Thy name is called; for we do not present our supplications before Thee because of our righteousness, but because of Thy great compassions.

² And if it had come to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land - so I said: O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech Thee; how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many as he needeth.

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he bestowed favor on us in the Beloved:
