⁷ And the LORD said: 'I have surely seen the affliction of My people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their pains; ⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

⁵ (23:6) Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said: 'O LORD of hosts, if Thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of Thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget Thy handmaid, but wilt give unto Thy handmaid a man-child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.'

¹⁸ See mine affliction and my travail; and forgive all my sins.

⁷ Hath He smitten him as He smote those that smote him? Or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that were slain by Him?

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

²⁸ And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is for the moment, worketh for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory,

⁷ and to you that are afflicted rest with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power

¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you: ¹³ but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye, because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you; on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters: ¹⁶ but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this respect. ¹⁷ For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear? ¹⁹ Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
