⁸ And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

²⁸ Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said unto them: 'Ye have gone up long enough to Jerusalem; behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

⁹ but hast done evil above all that were before thee, and hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke Me, and hast cast Me behind thy back;

⁸ Blessed be the LORD thy God, who delighted in thee, to set thee on His throne, to be king for the LORD thy God; because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made He thee king over them, to do justice and righteousness.'

¹⁵ and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the satyrs, and for the calves which he had made.

⁹ (14:8) And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and he came unto Mareshah. ¹⁰ (14:9) Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephath at Mareshah. ¹¹ (14:10) And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, there is none beside Thee to help, between the mighty and him that hath no strength; help us, O LORD our God; for we rely on Thee, and in Thy name are we come against this multitude. ⁶ and he said: 'O LORD, the God of our fathers, art not Thou alone God in heaven? and art not Thou ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? and in Thy hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand Thee.

¹² O our God, wilt Thou not execute judgment on them? for we have no might against this great multitude that cometh against us; neither know we what to do; but our eyes are upon Thee.'

¹ Why are the nations in an uproar? And why do the peoples mutter in vain? ² The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed: ³ 'Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.' ⁴ He that sitteth in heaven laugheth, the Lord hath them in derision. ⁵ Then will He speak unto them in His wrath, and affright them in His sore displeasure: ⁶ 'Truly it is I that have established My king upon Zion, My holy mountain.'

¹⁶ A king is not saved by the multitude of a host; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

⁶ Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set up a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeel; ⁷ thus saith the Lord GOD: It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

⁶ (9:5) For a child is born unto us, a son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder; and his name is called Pele- joez-el-gibbor-Abi-ad-sar-shalom; ⁷ (9:6) That the government may be increased, and of peace there be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it through justice and through righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts doth perform this.

⁵ Thy calf, O Samaria, is cast off; Mine anger is kindled against them; how long will it be ere they attain to innocency? ⁶ For from Israel is even this: the craftsman made it, and it is no God; yea, the calf of Samaria shall be broken in shivers.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us.

²⁷ But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
