⁴ Don’t allow yourself to sleep or even to close your eyes.

¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, ¹¹ and your poverty will come on you like a bandit and your desperation like an armed man.

¹⁰ Whatever the activity in which you engage, do it with all your ability, because there is no work, no planning, no learning, and no wisdom in the next world where you’re going.

¹⁷ Anyone who’s on the housetop must not come down to get what is in his house, ¹⁸ and anyone who’s in the field must not turn back to get his coat.

³⁵ So keep on watching, because you don’t know when the master of the house is coming—whether in the evening, at three o’clock in the morning, or at dawn. ³⁶ Otherwise, he may come suddenly and find you asleep.
