³ “You are to say, ‘Hear this message from the LORD, you kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem!
“‘This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: “I’m about to bring a disaster on this place that will make the ears of all who hear about it tingle.

¹¹ “Look,” the LORD told Samuel. “I’m about to do something in Israel that will make both ears of anyone who hears it tingle.

¹⁶ The man told Eli, “I’ve just come from the battle line, and I escaped from the battle today.”
He asked, “What happened, my son?”
¹⁷ The messenger answered, “Israel fled from the Philistines and the people suffered a great defeat as well. Moreover, your two sons, Hophni and Phineas, are dead, and the Ark of God was captured.”
¹⁸ When he mentioned the Ark of God, Eli fell off the seat backwards by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, since he was old and heavy. Eli had judged Israel for 40 years.

¹² therefore this is what the LORD God of Israel says: ‘Look! I’m going to bring such a disaster to Jerusalem and Judah that both ears of those who hear about it will ring. ¹³ I’ll stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line that is Samaria and the plumb line that is Ahab’s dynasty. Then I’ll wipe Jerusalem like one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down!

¹⁰ Therefore, kings, act wisely! Earthly rulers, be warned!

¹⁵ Nations will fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth, your splendor.

⁵ The Lord is at your right hand; he will utterly destroy kings in the time of his wrath.

¹⁹ As often as it sweeps through, it will carry you away, for it will sweep by morning after morning in the day; but understanding this message will bring sheer terror at night,

¹⁹ Listen, earth! I’m about to bring calamity on this people, on the fruit of their plans, because they didn’t listen to my words and they rejected my instruction.

¹⁸ Say to the king and the queen mother, “Come take a lowly seat, because your beautiful crowns have fallen off your heads.”

²⁰ Say to them, ‘Kings of Judah, all Judah, and all the residents of Jerusalem entering these gates, hear this message from the LORD.

¹⁸ You will be brought before governors and kings because of me, to testify to them and to unbelievers.

²⁹ ‘Let everyone listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
