When Things Go Wrong Blessed is the one who is considerate of the destitute; the LORD will deliver him when the times are evil.

¹⁶ But I will sing of your power and in the morning I will shout for joy about your gracious love. For you have been a fortress for me; and a refuge when I am distressed.

² When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; my hands were raised at night and they did not grow weary. I refused to be comforted. ³ I remember God, and I groan; I meditate, while my spirit grows faint. Interlude ⁴ You kept my eyes open; I was troubled and couldn’t speak. ⁵ I thought of ancient times, considering years long past. ⁶ During the night I remembered my song. I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders. ⁷ Will the Lord reject me forever and not show favor again? ⁸ Has his gracious love ceased forever? Will his promise be unfulfilled in future generations? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion? Interlude

¹⁵ Since my youth I have been oppressed and in danger of death. I bear your dread and am overwhelmed. ¹⁶ Your burning anger overwhelms me; your terrors destroy me.

¹⁹ LORD, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in a time of difficulty, to you the nations will come, and from the ends of the earth they’ll say, “Surely our ancestors inherited deception, things that are worthless, and in which there is no profit.”

⁷ Blessed is the person who trusts in the LORD, making the LORD his trust.

¹³ LORD, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn aside from you will be written in the dust, because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living water.

⁷ The LORD’s Goodness in the Midst of JudgmentThe LORD is good— a refuge in troubled times. He knows those who are confiding in him.

¹³ For this reason, take up the whole armor of God so that you may be able to take a stand whenever evil comes. And when you have done everything you could, you will be able to stand firm.
