⁸ For what advantage has the wise person over the fool? What advantage does the poor man have in knowing how to face life?

¹ God Appears to AbramWhen Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and announced, “I am God Almighty. Live in constant awareness that I’m always with you, and be blameless.

² I will pay attention to living a life of integrity— when will I attain it? I will live with integrity of heart in my house.

⁹ I will walk in the LORD’s presence in the lands of the living.

¹ The Priorities of Life Contrasted A poor man who walks blamelessly is better than a fool who speaks perversely.

¹⁴ The wise use their eyes, but the fool walks in darkness. I also perceived that the same outcome affects them all.
¹⁵ The Pointlessness of LifeThen I told myself, “Whatever happens to the fool will happen also to me. Therefore what’s the point in being so wise?” And I told myself that this also is pointless. ¹⁶ For neither the wise nor the fool will be long remembered, since in days to come everything will be forgotten. The wise man dies the same way as the fool, does he not?

¹¹ When possessions increase, so does the number of consumers; therefore what good are they to their owners, except to look at them?

⁶ Both of them were righteous before God, having lived blamelessly according to all of the commandments and regulations of the Lord.

¹⁷ Advice for the WealthyTell those who are rich in this age not to be arrogant and not to place their confidence in anything as uncertain as riches. Instead, let them place their confidence in God, who lavishly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
