³⁸ For there was a notice above his head, "This is the king of the Jews!"

¹¹ Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" Jesus said, "Yes."

³⁷ They put above his head the charge against him, which read, "This is Jesus, the king of the Jews."

¹⁸ and they began to acclaim him, "Long live the king of the Jews!"

¹⁹ Pilate had written a placard and had it put on the cross; it read "Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews." ²⁰ Many of the Jews read this placard, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. ²¹ So the Jewish high priests said to Pilate, "Do not write 'The king of the Jews,' but write 'He said, I am the king of the Jews.' " ²² Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written!"
