¹⁴ O God, the proude are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men haue sought my soule, and haue not set thee before them.

¹ After this, Absalom prepared him charets and horses, and fiftie men to runne before him. ² And Absalom rose vp early, and stoode hard by the entring in of the gate: and euery man that had any matter, and came to the King for iudgement, him did Absalom call vnto him, and sayde, Of what citie art thou? And he answered, Thy seruant is of one of the tribes of Israel. ³ Then Absalom said vnto him, See, thy matters are good and righteous, but there is no man deputed of the King to heare thee. ⁴ Absalom sayd moreouer, Oh that I were made Iudge in the lande, that euery man which hath any matter of controuersie, might come to me, that I might do him iustice. ⁵ And when any man came neere to him, and did him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and tooke him, and kissed him. ⁶ And on this maner did Absalom to al Israel, that came to the King for iudgement: so Absalom stale the hearts of the men of Israel. ⁷ And after fourtie yeeres, Absalom sayd vnto the King, I pray thee, let me go to Hebron, and render my vowe which I haue vowed vnto the Lord. ⁸ For thy seruant vowed a vowe when I remayned at Geshur, in Aram, saying, If the Lord shall bring me againe in deede to Ierusalem, I will serue the Lord. ⁹ And the King sayd vnto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron. ¹⁰ Then Absalom sent spyes throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, When yee heare the sound of the trumpet, Ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron. ¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundreth men out of Ierusalem, that were called: and they went in their simplicitie, knowing nothing. ¹² Also Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite Dauids counseller, from his citie Giloh, while he offred sacrifices: and the treason was great: for the people encreased still with Absalom.

²⁰ Then spake Absalom to Ahithophel, Giue counsell what we shall doe.

¹⁴ Then Absalom and all the men of Israel sayde, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better, then the counsell of Ahithophel: for the Lord had determined to destroy the good counsell of Ahithophel, that the Lord might bring euill vpon Absalom.

⁴ The wicked is so proude that hee seeketh not for God: hee thinketh alwayes, There is no God.

¹¹ He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten, he hideth away his face, and will neuer see.

¹³ Wherefore doeth the wicked contemne God? he saith in his heart, Thou wilt not regard.

⁴ Doe not all the workers of iniquitie know that they eate vp my people, as they eate bread? they call not vpon the Lord.

¹ To him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid, the servant of the Lord. Wickedness sayeth to the wicked man, euen in mine heart, that there is no feare of God before his eyes.

¹¹ Let not ye foote of pride come against me, and let not the hand of ye wicked men moue me.

³ For strangers are risen vp against me, and tyrants seeke my soule: they haue not set God before them. Selah.

⁵¹ The proude haue had me exceedingly in derision: yet haue I not declined from thy Lawe.

⁶⁹ The proud haue imagined a lie against me: but I wil keepe thy precepts with my whole heart.

⁸⁵ The proude haue digged pittes for mee, which is not after thy Lawe.

⁵ The proude haue layde a snare for me, and spred a nette with cordes in my pathway, and set grennes for me. Selah.

¹² Then saide hee vnto mee, Sonne of man, hast thou seene what the Ancients of the house of Israel do in the darke, euery one in the chamber of his imagerie? for they say, The Lord seeth vs not, the Lord hath forsaken the earth.

⁹ Then saide he vnto me, The iniquitie of the house of Israel, and Iudah is exceeding great, so that the lande is full of blood, and the citie full of corrupt iudgement: for they say, The Lord hath forsaken the earth, and the Lord seeth vs not.

³ Then assembled together the chiefe Priests, and the Scribes, and the Elders of ye people into the hall of the high Priest called Caiaphas: ⁴ And consulted together that they might take Iesus by subtiltie, and kill him.

¹ When the morning was come, all the chiefe Priests, and the elders of the people tooke counsell against Iesus, to put him to death, ² And led him away bounde, and deliuered him vnto Pontius Pilate the gouernour.

²⁷ For doutlesse, against thine holy Sonne Iesus, whome thou haddest anoynted, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel gathered themselues together, ²⁸ To doe whatsoeuer thine hand, and thy counsell had determined before to be done.
