⁷ Thou calledst in affliction and I deliuered thee, and answered thee in the secret of the thunder: I prooued thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

²³ Then in processe of time, the King of Egypt dyed, and the children of Israel sighed for the bondage and cryed: and their crie for the bondage came vp vnto God.

¹⁰ And when Pharaoh drew nie, the children of Israel lift vp their eyes, and beholde, the Egyptians marched after them, and they were sore afrayde: wherefore the children of Israel cried vnto the Lord.

²⁴ Nowe in the morning watche, when the Lord looked vnto the hoste of the Egyptians, out of the firie and cloudie pillar, he strooke the host of the Egyptians with feare.

³⁰ Thus the Lord saued Israel the same day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel sawe the Egyptians dead vpon the Sea banke. ³¹ And Israel saw the mightie power, which the Lord shewed vpon the Egyptians: so the people feared the Lord, and beleeued the Lord, and his seruant Moses.

² Wherefore the people contended with Moses, and sayde, Giue vs water that we may drinke. And Moses sayde vnto them, Why contende yee with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord? ³ So the people thirsted there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore hast thou thus brought vs out of Egypt to kill vs and our children and our cattel with thirst? ⁴ And Moses cried to the Lord, saying, What shall I do to this people? for they be almost ready to stone me. ⁵ And ye Lord answered to Moses, Goe before the people, and take with thee of the Elders of Israel: and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the riuer, take in thine hand, and go: ⁶ Behold, I will stand there before thee vpon the rocke in Horeb, and thou shalt smite on the rocke, and water shall come out of it, that the people may drinke. And Moses did so in the sight of the Elders of Israel. ⁷ And he called the name of the place, Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they had tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among vs, or no?

¹⁹ And when the sound of the trumpet blew long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by voyce.

¹⁸ And all the people sawe the thunders, and the lightnings, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountaine smoking and when the people saw it they fled and stoode afare off, ¹⁹ And sayde vnto Moses, Talke thou with vs, and we will heare: but let not God talke with vs, lest we die. ²⁰ Then Moses sayde vnto the people, Feare not: for God is come to proue you, and that his feare may be before you, that ye sinne not. ²¹ So the people stoode afarre off, but Moses drew neere vnto the darkenes where God was.

¹³ This is the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel stroue with the Lord, and hee was sanctified in them.

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered vnto his people: for hee shall not enter into the lande, which I haue giuen vnto the children of Israel, because ye disobeyed my commandement at the water of Meribah.

⁸ And of Leui he said, Let thy Thummim and thine Vrim be with thine Holy one, whome thou diddest proue in Massah, and didst cause him to striue at the waters of Meribah.

¹⁵ And call vpon me in the day of trouble: so will I deliuer thee, and thou shalt glorifie me.

¹⁴ Because he hath loued me, therefore will I deliuer him: I will exalt him because hee hath knowen my Name. ¹⁵ He shall call vpon me, and I wil heare him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliuer him, and glorifie him.
