⁸ He raiseth vp ye poore out of the dust, and lifteth vp the begger from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherite the seate of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lordes, and he hath set the world vpon them.

⁷ And the women sang by course in their play, and sayd, Saul hath slayne his thousand, and Dauid his ten thousand.

²⁸ I pray thee, forgiue the trespasse of thine handmaide: for the Lord will make my lorde a sure house, because my lord fighteth the battels of the Lord, and none euill hath bene found in thee in all thy life.

¹ Now the Philistims fought against Israel, and the me of Israel fled away from ye Philistims, and they fell downe wounded in mount Gilboa. ² And the Philistims preassed sore vpon Saul and his sonnes, and slewe Ionathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua Sauls sonnes. ³ And when the battel went sore against Saul, the archers and bowmen hit him, and hee was sore wounded of the archers. ⁴ Then saide Saul vnto his armour bearer, Drawe out thy sworde, and thrust mee through therewith, lest the vncircumcised come and thrust me through and mocke me: but his armour bearer would not, for hee was sore afraid. Therefore Saul tooke a sworde and fell vpon it. ⁵ And when his armour bearer sawe that Saul was dead, he fell likewise vpon his sword, and dyed with him. ⁶ So Saul dyed, and his three sonnes, and his armour bearer, and all his men that same day together. ⁷ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they of the other side Iorden saw that the men of Israel were put to flight, and that Saul and his sonnes were dead, then they left the cities, and ran away: and the Philistims came and dwelt in them.

⁶⁰ So that hee forsooke the habitation of Shilo, euen the Tabernacle where hee dwelt among men, ⁶¹ And deliuered his power into captiuitie, and his beautie into the enemies hand. ⁶² And hee gaue vp his people to the sworde, and was angrie with his inheritance. ⁶³ The fire deuoured their chosen men, and their maides were not praised. ⁶⁴ Their Priestes fell by the sworde, and their widowes lamented not. ⁶⁵ But the Lord awaked as one out of sleepe, and as a strong man that after his wine crieth out, ⁶⁶ And smote his enemies in the hinder parts, and put them to a perpetuall shame. ⁶⁷ Yet he refused the tabernacle of Ioseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim: ⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Iudah, and mount Zion which he loued. ⁶⁹ And he built his Sanctuarie as an high palace, like the earth, which he stablished for euer. ⁷⁰ He chose Dauid also his seruant, and tooke him from the shepefolds. ⁷¹ Euen from behinde the ewes with yong brought he him to feede his people in Iaakob, and his inheritance in Israel. ⁷² So he fed them according to the simplicitie of his heart, and guided them by the discretion of his hands.

¹ Behold, the Lord maketh the earth emptie, and hee maketh it waste: hee turneth it vpside downe, and scattereth abrode the inhabitants thereof. ² And there shalbe like people, like Priest, and like seruaunt, like master, like maide, like mistresse, like bier, like seller, like lender, like borower, like giuer, like taker to vsurie. ³ The earth shalbe cleane emptied, and vtterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this worde. ⁴ The earth lamenteth and fadeth away: the world is feeble and decaied: the proude people of the earth are weakened. ⁵ The earth also deceiueth, because of the inhabitantes thereof: for they transgressed the lawes: they changed the ordinances, and brake the euerlasting couenant. ⁶ Therefore hath the curse deuoured the earth, and the inhabitantes thereof are desolate. Wherefore the inhabitants of the land are burned vp, and fewe men are left. ⁷ The wine faileth, the vine hath no might: all that were of merie heart, doe mourne. ⁸ The mirth of tabrets ceaseth: the noyse of them that reioyce, endeth: the ioye of the harpe ceaseth. ⁹ They shall not drinke wine with mirth: strong drinke shall be bitter to them that drinke it. ¹⁰ The citie of vanitie is broken downe: euery house is shut vp, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streetes: al ioy is darkened: the mirth of the world is gone away. ¹² In the citie is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

¹⁹ The earth is vtterly broken downe: the earth is cleane dissolued: the earth is mooued exceedingly.

⁸ Thus sayeth the Lord, In an acceptable time haue I heard thee, and in a day of saluation haue I helped thee: and I will preserue thee, and wil giue thee for a couenant of ye people, that thou maiest raise vp the earth, and obtaine the inheritance of the desolate heritages:

³ Who being the brightnes of the glory, and the ingraued forme of his person, and bearing vp all things by his mightie worde, hath by himselfe purged our sinnes, and sitteth at the right hand of the Maiestie in the highest places,
