² How long shall I take counsell within my selfe, hauing wearinesse dayly in mine heart? how long shall mine enemie be exalted aboue me?

²⁹ Then Saul was more and more afrayde of Dauid, and Saul became alway Dauids enemie.

¹⁹ And thou hast shewed this day, that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the Lord had closed me in thine hands, thou killedst me not.

² And the king said vnto me, Why is thy coutenance sad, seeing thou art not sicke? this is nothing, but sorow of heart. Then was I sore afrayd,

⁶ And Ester said, The aduersarie and enemie is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afrayde before the King and the Queene.

¹² Am I a sea or a whalefish, that thou keepest me in warde? ¹³ When I say, My couch shall relieue me, and my bed shall bring comfort in my meditation, ¹⁴ Then fearest thou me with dreames, and astonishest me with visions. ¹⁵ Therefore my soule chuseth rather to be strangled and to die, then to be in my bones.

¹⁹ If we speake of strength, behold, he is strog: if we speake of iudgement, who shall bring me in to pleade? ²⁰ If I woulde iustifie my selfe, mine owne mouth shall condemne mee: if I would be perfite, he shall iudge me wicked. ²¹ Though I were perfite, yet I knowe not my soule: therefore abhorre I my life.

²⁷ If I say, I wil forget my complaynt, I will cease from my wrath, and comfort mee, ²⁸ Then I am afrayd of all my sorowes, knowing that thou wilt not iudge me innocent.

¹⁵ If I haue done wickedly, wo vnto me: if I haue done righteously, I will not lift vp mine head, being full of confusion, because I see mine affliction.

⁸ Behold, if I go to the East, he is not there: if to the West, yet I can not perceiue him: ⁹ If to the North where he worketh, yet I cannot see him: he wil hide himselfe in the South, and I cannot beholde him. ¹⁰ But he knoweth my way, and trieth mee, and I shall come forth like the gold.

² Least he deuoure my soule like a lion, and teare it in pieces, while there is none to helpe.

⁴ If I haue rewarded euill vnto him that had peace with mee, (yea I haue deliuered him that vexed me without cause) ⁵ Then let the enemie persecute my soule and take it: yea, let him treade my life downe vpon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

² Out of the mouth of babes and suckelings hast thou ordeined strength, because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemie and the auenger.

⁶ O enemie, destructions are come to a perpetual end, and thou hast destroyed the cities: their memoriall is perished with them.

¹⁸ To iudge the fatherlesse and poore, that earthly man cause to feare no more.

⁹ From the wicked that oppresse mee, from mine enemies, which compasse me round about for my soule.

⁷ All they that see me, haue me in derision: they make a mowe and nod the head, saying, ⁸ He trusted in the Lord, let him deliuer him: let him saue him, seeing he loueth him.

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be made dumme, which cruelly, proudly and spitefully speake against the righteous.

¹⁷ Surely I am ready to halte, and my sorow is euer before me.

⁴ When I remembred these things, I powred out my very heart, because I had gone with the multitude, and ledde them into the House of God with the voyce of singing, and prayse, as a multitude that keepeth a feast.

⁹ I wil say vnto God, which is my rocke, Why hast thou forgotten mee? why goe I mourning, when the enemie oppresseth me? ¹⁰ My bones are cut asunder, while mine enemies reproch me, saying dayly vnto me, Where is thy God?

¹⁴ Thou makest vs a prouerbe among the nations, and a nodding of the head among the people. ¹⁵ My confusion is dayly before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me, ¹⁶ For the voyce of the slaunderer and rebuker, for the enemie and auenger.

¹⁰ O God, howe long shall the aduersarie reproche thee? shall the enemie blaspheme thy Name for euer?

¹⁸ Remember this, that the enemie hath reproched the Lord, and the foolish people hath blasphemed thy Name.

² In the day of my trouble I sought ye Lord: my sore ranne and ceased not in the night: my soule refused comfort. ³ I did thinke vpon God, and was troubled: I praied, and my spirit was full of anguish. Selah. ⁴ Thou keepest mine eyes waking: I was astonied and could not speake. ⁵ Then I considered the daies of olde, and the yeeres of ancient time. ⁶ I called to remembrance my song in the night: I communed with mine owne heart, and my spirit searched diligently. ⁷ Will the Lord absent him selfe for euer? and will he shewe no more fauour? ⁸ Is his mercie cleane gone for euer? doeth his promise faile for euermore? ⁹ Hath God forgotten to be mercifull? hath he shut vp his teder mercies in displeasure? Selah. ¹⁰ And I sayde, This is my death: yet I remembred the yeeres of the right hand of the most High. ¹¹ I remembred the workes of the Lord: certainely I remembred thy wonders of olde. ¹² I did also meditate all thy woorkes, and did deuise of thine actes, saying,

¹⁸ When I said, My foote slideth, thy mercy, O Lord, stayed me. ¹⁹ In the multitude of my thoughts in mine heart, thy comfortes haue reioyced my soule.

³ When the snares of death copassed me, and the griefes of the graue caught me: when I founde trouble and sorowe.

³ Haue mercie vpon vs, O Lord, haue mercie vpon vs: for we haue suffered too much contempt. ⁴ Our soule is filled too full of ye mocking of the wealthy, and of the despitefulnes of the proude.

⁴ I looked vpon my right hand, and beheld, but there was none that would knowe me: all refuge failed me, and none cared for my soule. ⁵ Then cryed I vnto thee, O Lord, and sayde, thou art mine hope, and my portion in the land of the liuing. ⁶ Hearken vnto my crye, for I am brought very lowe: deliuer me from my persecuters, for they are too strong for me. ⁷ Bring my soule out of prison, that I may prayse thy Name: then shall the righteous come about me, when thou art beneficiall vnto me.

³ For the enemie hath persecuted my soule: he hath smitten my life downe to the earth: he hath layde me in the darkenes, as they that haue bene dead long agoe: ⁴ And my spirit was in perplexitie in me, and mine heart within me was amased.

¹³ A ioyfull heart maketh a chearefull countenance: but by the sorow of the heart the minde is heauie.

¹⁷ Beholde then, what I haue seene good, that it is comely to eate, and to drinke, and to take pleasure in all his labour, wherein he traueileth vnder the sunne, the whole nomber of the dayes of his life, which God giueth him: for this is his portion.

¹⁸ I would haue comforted my selfe against sorowe, but mine heart is heauie in me.

¹⁸ Why is mine heauines continuall? and my plague desperate and cannot be healed? why art thou vnto me as a lyar, and as waters that faile?

³ Thou diddest say, Wo is me nowe: for the Lord hath laied sorrow vnto my sorrowe: I fainted in my mourning, and I can finde no rest.

⁵ Her aduersaries are the chiefe, and her enemies prosper: for the Lord hath afflicted her, for the multitude of her transgressions, and her children are gone into captiuitie before the enemie.

⁹ Her filthinesse is in her skirts: she remembred not her last ende, therefore she came downe wonderfully: she had no comforter: O Lord, behold mine affliction: for the enemie is proud.

⁸ Reioyce not against me, O mine enemie: though I fall, I shall arise: when I shall sit in darkenesse, the Lord shalbe a light vnto me. ⁹ I will beare the wrath of the Lord because I haue sinned against him, vntill he pleade my cause, and execute iudgement for me: then will he bring me foorth to the light, and I shall see his righteousnesse. ¹⁰ Then she that is mine enemie, shall looke vpon it, and shame shall couer her, which said vnto me, Where is the Lord thy God? Mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be troden downe as the myre of the streetes.

³⁸ Then sayde Iesus vnto them, My soule is very heauie, euen vnto the death: tarie yee here, and watch with me.

⁵³ When I was dayly with you in the Temple, yee stretched not foorth the handes against mee: but this is your very houre, and the power of darkenesse.

⁶ But because I haue saide these thinges vnto you, your hearts are full of sorowe.

² That I haue great heauinesse, and continuall sorow in mine heart.

²⁷ And no doubt he was sicke, very neere vnto death: but God had mercie on him, and not on him onely, but on me also, least I should haue sorowe vpon sorowe.
