⁹ Least thou giue thine honor vnto others, and thy yeeres to the cruell:

²³ Then Iudah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: beholde, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her. ²⁴ Now after three moneths, one tolde Iudah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the whore, and lo, with playing the whore, she is great with childe. Then Iudah saide, Bring ye her foorth and let her be burnt. ²⁵ When she was brought foorth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, vnto whom these things pertaine, am I with childe: and saide also, Looke, I pray thee, whose these are, the seale, and the cloke, and the staffe. ²⁶ Then Iudah knewe them, and said, She is more righteous then I: for she hath done it because I gaue her not to Shelah my sonne. So he lay with her no more.

¹⁹ And she made him sleepe vpon her knees, and she called a man, and made him to shaue off the seuen lockes of his head, and shee began to vexe him, and his strength was gone from him. ²⁰ Then she said, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson. And hee awoke out of his sleepe, and thought, I will go out now as at other times, and shake my selfe, but he knewe not that the Lord was departed from him. ²¹ Therefore the Philistims tooke him, and put out his eyes, and brought him downe to Azzah, and bounde him with fetters: and hee did grinde in the prison house.

²⁶ Did not Salomon the king of Israel sinne by these thinges? yet among many nations was there no King like him: for he was beloued of his God, and God had made him King ouer Israel: yet strange women caused him to sinne.

²⁹ So he that goeth in to his neighbours wife, shall not be innocent, whosoeuer toucheth her. ³⁰ Men do not despise a thiefe, when he stealeth, to satisfie his soule, because he is hungrie. ³¹ But if he be founde, he shall restore seuen folde, or he shall giue all the substance of his house. ³² But he that committeth adulterie with a woman, he is destitute of vnderstanding: he that doeth it, destroyeth his owne soule. ³³ He shall finde a wounde and dishonour, and his reproch shall neuer be put away. ³⁴ For ielousie is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. ³⁵ He cannot beare the sight of any raunsome: neither will he consent, though thou augment the giftes.

¹³ They sacrifice vpon the toppes of ye mountaines, and burne incense vpon the hilles vnder the okes, and the poplar tree, and the elme, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall be harlots, and your spouses shall be whores. ¹⁴ I will not visite your daughters when they are harlots: nor your spouses when they are whores: for they themselues are separated with harlots, and sacrifice with whores: therefore the people that doeth not vnderstand, shall fall.
