⁸ Open thy mouth for the domme in the cause of all the children of destruction.

⁴ And Ionathan spake good of Dauid vnto Saul his father, and said vnto him, Let not the King sinne against his seruat, against Dauid: for he hath not sinned against thee, but his works haue bene to thee very good. ⁵ For he did put his life in daunger, and slew the Philistim, and the Lord wrought a great saluation for al Israel: thou sawest it, and thou reioycedst: wherefore then wilt thou sinne against innocent blood, and slay Dauid without a cause? ⁶ Then Saul hearkened vnto the voyce of Ionathan, and Saul sware, As the Lord liueth, he shall not dye. ⁷ So Ionathan called Dauid, and Ionathan shewed him all those words, and Ionathan brought Dauid to Saul, and hee was in his presence as in times past.

³² And Ionathan answered vnto Saul his father, and said vnto him, Wherefore shall he die? what hath he done?

¹⁴ And Ahimelech answered the King, and sayde, Who is so faithfull among all thy seruants as Dauid, being also the Kings sonne in lawe, and goeth at thy commandement, and is honourable in thine house? ¹⁵ Haue I this day first begun to aske counsell of God for him? be it farre from mee, let not the King impute any thing vnto his seruant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy seruant knew nothing of all this, lesse nor more.

¹³ And Mordecai saide, that they should answere Ester thus, Thinke not with thy selfe that thou shalt escape in the Kings house, more then all the Iewes. ¹⁴ For if thou holdest thy peace at this time, comfort and deliuerance shall appeare to the Iewes out of another place, but thou and thy fathers house shall perish: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdome for such a time? ¹⁵ Then Ester commanded to answere Mordecai, ¹⁶ Goe, and assemble all the Iewes that are found in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and eate not, nor drinke in three dayes, day nor night. I also and my maydes will fast likewise, and so will I go in to the King, which is not according to the lawe: and if I perish, I perish.

⁹ The princes stayed talke, and layde their hand on their mouth.

¹² For I deliuered the poore that cryed, and the fatherlesse, and him that had none to helpe him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish, came vpon me, and I caused the widowes heart to reioyce. ¹⁴ I put on iustice, and it couered me: my iudgement was as a robe, and a crowne. ¹⁵ I was the eyes to the blinde, and I was the feete to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father vnto the poore, and when I knewe not the cause, I sought it out diligently. ¹⁷ I brake also the chawes of the vnrighteous man, and pluckt the praye out of his teeth.

¹¹ Let the sighing of the prisoners come before thee: according to thy mightie arme preserue the children of death,

³ Doe right to the poore and fatherlesse: doe iustice to the poore and needie. ⁴ Deliuer the poore and needie: saue them from the hand of the wicked.

⁷ Wisdome is hie to a foole: therefore he can not open his mouth in the gate.

¹¹ Deliuer them that are drawen to death: wilt thou not preserue them that are led to be slaine? ¹² If thou say, Beholde, we knew not of it: he that pondereth the heartes, doeth not hee vnderstand it? and hee that keepeth thy soule, knoweth he it not? will not he also recompense euery man according to his workes?

¹⁶ Then saide the princes and all the people vnto the Priestes, and to the prophets, This man is not worthie to die: for he hath spoken vnto vs in the Name of the Lord our God. ¹⁷ Then rose vp certaine of the Elders of the lande, and spake to all the assemblie of the people, saying, ¹⁸ Michah the Morashite prophecied in the dayes of Hezekiah king of Iudah, and spake to al the people of Iudah, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hostes, Zion shall be plowed like a fielde, and Ierusalem shalbe an heape, and the mountaine of the House shalbe as the hie places of the forest. ¹⁹ Did Hezekiah King of Iudah, and all Iudah put him to death? did he not feare ye Lord, and prayed before the Lord, and the Lord repented him of the plague, that he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great euill against our soules.

²⁴ But the hande of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan was with Ieremiah that they shoulde not giue him into the hande of the people to put him to death.

⁷ Now when Ebed-melech ye blacke More one of ye Eunuches, which was in the kings house, heard that they had put Ieremiah in the dungeon (then the King sate in the gate of Beniamin) ⁸ And Ebed-melech went out of the Kings house, and spake to the King, saying, ⁹ My lorde the King, these men haue done euill in all that they haue done to Ieremiah the Prophet, whom they haue cast into the dungeon, and he dyeth for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the citie. ¹⁰ Then the King commanded Ebed-melech the blacke More, saying, Take from hence thirtie men with thee, and take Ieremiah the Prophet out of the dungeon before he dye.

⁵¹ Doth our Law iudge a man before it heare him, and knowe what he hath done?
