⁴ Anger is cruell, and wrath is raging: but who can stand before enuie?

¹⁴ For he had flockes of sheepe, and heards of cattell, and a mightie housholde: therefore the Philistims had enuy at him.

¹¹ And his brethren enuied him, but his father noted the saying.

² Doubtlesse anger killeth the foolish, and enuie slayeth the idiote.

³⁴ For ielousie is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁰ A sounde heart is the life of the flesh: but enuie is the rotting of the bones.

⁶ Set mee as a seale on thine heart, and as a signet vpon thine arme: for loue is strong as death: ielousie is cruel as the graue: the coles thereof are fierie coles, and a vehement flame.

¹⁹ Wherefore my deare brethren, let euery man be swift to heare, slowe to speake, and slowe to wrath. ²⁰ For the wrath of man doeth not accomplish the righteousnesse of God. ²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthinesse, and superfluitie of maliciousnesse, and receiue with meekenes the word that is graffed in you, which is able to saue your soules.

¹⁴ But if ye haue bitter enuying and strife in your hearts, reioyce not, neither be liars against the trueth. ¹⁵ This wisedome descendeth not from aboue, but is earthly, sensuall, and deuilish. ¹⁶ For where enuying and strife is, there is sedition, and all maner of euill workes.

⁵ Doe ye thinke that the Scripture sayeth in vaine, The spirit that dwelleth in vs, lusteth after enuie? ⁶ But the Scripture offereth more grace, and therefore sayth, God resisteth the proude, and giueth grace to the humble.

¹² Not as Cain which was of that wicked one, and slewe his brother: and wherefore slewe he him? because his owne workes were euill, and his brothers good.
