¹⁶ Hee that oppresseth the poore to increase him selfe, and giueth vnto the riche, shall surely come to pouertie.

¹⁹ For he hath vndone many: he hath forsaken the poore, and hath spoyled houses which he builded not. ²⁰ Surely he shall feele no quietnes in his bodie, neither shall he reserue of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meate bee left: therefore none shall hope for his goods. ²² When he shalbe filled with his abundance, he shalbe in paine, and the hand of all the wicked shall assaile him. ²³ He shall be about to fill his belly, but God shall sende vpon him his fierce wrath, and shall cause to rayne vpon him, euen vpon his meate. ²⁴ He shall flee from the yron weapons, and the bow of steele shall strike him through. ²⁵ The arrowe is drawen out, and commeth forth of the body, and shineth of his gall, so feare commeth vpon him. ²⁶ All darkenes shalbe hid in his secret places: the fire that is not blowen, shall deuoure him, and that which remaineth in his tabernacle, shalbe destroyed. ²⁷ The heauen shall declare his wickednes, and the earth shall rise vp against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall go away: it shall flow away in the day of his wrath. ²⁹ This is the portion of the wicked man from God, and the heritage that he shall haue of God for his wordes.

⁵ Now for the oppression of the needy, and for the sighes of the poore, I will vp, sayeth the Lord, and will set at libertie him, whom the wicked hath snared.

³¹ He that oppresseth the poore, reprooueth him that made him: but hee honoureth him, that hath mercie on the poore.

²² Robbe not the poore, because hee is poore, neither oppresse the afflicted in iudgement. ²³ For the Lord will defende their cause, and spoyle the soule of those that spoyle them.

³ A poore man, if he oppresse the poore, is like a raging raine, that leaueth no foode.

²² A man with a wicked eye hasteth to riches, and knoweth not, that pouertie shall come vpon him.

² And they couet fields, and take them by violence, and houses, and take them away: so they oppresse a man and his house, euen man and his heritage. ³ Therefore thus saieth the Lord, Beholde, against this familie haue I deuised a plague, whereout yee shall not plucke your neckes, and ye shall not go so proudly, for this time is euill.

⁹ Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes, saying, Execute true iudgement, and shewe mercy and compassion, euery man to his brother, ¹⁰ And oppresse not the widowe, nor the fatherles, the stranger nor the poore, and let none of you imagine euil against his brother in your heart. ¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their eares, that they should not heare. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, least they should heare the Lawe and the wordes which the Lord of hostes sent in his spirit by the ministerie of ye former Prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of hostes. ¹³ Therefore it is come to passe, that as he cried, and they would not heare, so they cried, and I would not heare, sayth the Lord of hostes. ¹⁴ But I scattered them among all the nations, whom they knew not: thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they layd the pleasant land waste.

³³ And if ye do good for them which do good for you, what thanke shall ye haue? for euen the sinners doe the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receiue, what thanke shall yee haue? for euen the sinners lend to sinners, to receiue the like. ³⁵ Wherefore loue ye your enemies, and doe good, and lend, looking for nothing againe, and your rewarde shalbe great, and ye shalbe the children of the most High: for he is kinde vnto the vnkinde, and to the euill.

¹² Then said he also to him that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friendes, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsemen, nor ye riche neighbours, lest they also bid thee againe, and a recompence be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a feast, call ye poore, the maimed, the lame, and the blind, ¹⁴ And thou shalt be blessed, because they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the iust.

²⁴ Then he cried, and saide, Father Abraham, haue mercie on mee, and sende Lazarus that hee may dippe the tip of his finger in water, and coole my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame.

¹³ For there shalbe condemnation merciles to him that sheweth not mercie, and mercie reioyceth against condemnation.

¹ Goe to nowe, ye rich men: weepe, and howle for your miseries that shall come vpon you. ² Your riches are corrupt, and your garments are moth eaten. ³ Your gold and siluer is cankred, and the rust of them shalbe a witnesse against you, and shall eate your flesh, as it were fire. Ye haue heaped vp treasure for the last dayes. ⁴ Behold, the hire of ye labourers, which haue reaped your fieldes (which is of you kept backe by fraude) cryeth, and the cryes of them which haue reaped, are entred into the eares of the Lord of hostes. ⁵ Ye haue liued in pleasure on the earth, and in wantonnes. Ye haue nourished your heartes, as in a day of slaughter.
