²⁵ Heauines in the heart of man doeth bring it downe: but a good worde reioyceth it.

¹ Nowe in the moneth Nisan in the twentieth yere of king Artahshashte, the wine stoode before him, and I tooke vp the wine, and gaue it vnto the King. nowe I was not before time sad in his presence. ² And the king said vnto me, Why is thy coutenance sad, seeing thou art not sicke? this is nothing, but sorow of heart. ⁶ I am bowed, and crooked very sore: I goe mourning all the day.

¹¹ Why art thou cast downe, my soule? and why art thou disquieted within mee? waite on God: for I wil yet giue him thankes: he is my present helpe, and my God.

¹⁸ There is that speaketh wordes like the prickings of a sworde: but the tongue of wise men is health.

¹⁰ The heart knoweth the bitternes of his soule, and the stranger shall not medle with his ioy.

¹³ A ioyfull heart maketh a chearefull countenance: but by the sorow of the heart the minde is heauie.

⁹ As oyntment and perfume reioyce the heart, so doeth the sweetenes of a mans friend by hearty counsell.

⁴ The Lord God hath giuen me a tongue of the learned, that I shoulde knowe to minister a woord in time to him that is weary: he will raise me vp in the morning: in the morning hee will waken mine eare to heare, as the learned.

¹³ And the Lord answered the Angel that talked with me, with good wordes and comfortable wordes.

³³ And hee tooke with him Peter, and Iames, and Iohn, and hee began to be troubled, and in great heauinesse, ³⁴ And saide vnto them, My soule is very heauie, euen vnto the death: tarie here, and watch.

⁴ For in great affliction, and anguish of heart I wrote vnto you with many teares: not that yee should be made sorie, but that ye might perceiue the loue which I haue, specially vnto you. ⁵ And if any hath caused sorowe, the same hath not made mee sorie, but partly (lest I should more charge him) you all. ⁶ It is sufficient vnto the same man, that hee was rebuked of many. ⁷ So that nowe contrariwise yee ought rather to forgiue him, and comfort him, lest the same shoulde bee swalowed vp with ouermuch heauinesse.
