¹⁴ Because the gate is streight, and the way narowe that leadeth vnto life, and fewe there be that finde it.

²¹ And thine eares shall heare a worde behind thee, saying, This is the way, walke ye in it, when thou turnest to the right hand, and when thou turnest to the left.

⁸ And there shalbe a path and a way, and the way shalbe called holy: the polluted shall not passe by it: for he shalbe with them, and walke in the way, and the fooles shall not erre.

¹⁴ And he shall say, Cast vp, cast vp: prepare the way: take vp the stumbling blocks out of the way of my people.

¹⁶ Thus sayeth the Lord, Stande in the waies and beholde, and aske for the olde way, which is the good way and walke therein, and yee shall finde rest for your soules: but they saide, We will not walke therein.

²⁴ Iesus then saide to his disciples, If any man will follow me, let him forsake himselfe: and take vp his crosse, and follow me. ²⁵ For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: and whosoeuer shall lose his life for my sake, shall finde it.

¹ Then the kingdome of heauen shalbe likened vnto tenne virgins, which tooke their lampes, and went foorth to meete the bridegrome. ² And fiue of them were wise, and fiue foolish. ³ The foolish tooke their lampes, but tooke none oyle with them. ⁴ But the wise tooke oyle in their vessels with their lampes. ⁵ Nowe while the bridegrome taried long, all slumbred and slept. ⁶ And at midnight there was a crie made, Behold, the bridegrome commeth: goe out to meete him. ⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lampes. ⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, Giue vs of your oyle, for our lampes are out. ⁹ But the wise answered, saying, Not so, lest there will not be ynough for vs and you: but goe ye rather to them that sell, and bye for your selues. ¹⁰ And while they went to bye, the bridegrome came: and they that were readie, went in with him to the wedding, and the gate was shut. ¹¹ Afterwards came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to vs. ¹² But he answered, and said, Verely I say vnto you, I knowe you not.

³² Feare not, litle flocke: for it is your Fathers pleasure, to giue you the kingdome.

And he said vnto them, ²⁴ Striue to enter in at the straite gate: for many, I say vnto you, will seeke to enter in, and shall not be able. ²⁵ When the good man of the house is risen vp, and hath shut to the doore, and ye begin to stand without, and to knocke at the doore, saying, Lord, Lord, open to vs, and he shall answere and say vnto you, I know you not whence ye are, ²⁶ Then shall ye begin to say, We haue eaten and drunke in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streetes. ²⁷ But he shall say, I tell you, I knowe you not whence ye are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquitie. ²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when ye shall see Abraham and Isaac, and Iacob, and all the Prophets in the kingdome of God, and your selues thrust out at doores. ²⁹ Then shall come many from the East, and from the West, and from the North, and from the South, and shall sit at Table in the kingdome of God. ³⁰ And beholde, there are last, which shalbe first, and there are first, which shalbe last.

¹⁸ If the worlde hate you, ye knowe that it hated me before you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the worlde, the world woulde loue his owne: but because ye are not of ye world, but I haue chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said vnto you, The seruant is not greater then his master. If they haue persecuted me, they will persecute you also: if they haue kept my worde, they will also keepe yours.

² They shall excommunicate you: yea, the time shall come, that whosoeuer killeth you, will thinke that he doeth God seruice.

³³ These thinges haue I spoken vnto you, that in me ye might haue peace: in the world ye shall haue affliction, but be of good comfort: I haue ouercome the world.

²² Confirming the disciples hearts, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, affirming that we must through many afflictions enter into the kingdome of God.

²⁷ Also Esaias cryeth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel were as the sand of the sea, yet shall but a remnant be saued. ²⁸ For he wil make his account, and gather it into a short summe with righteousnes: for the Lord will make a short count in the earth. ²⁹ And as Esaias sayde before, Except the Lord of hostes had left vs a seede, we had bene made as Sodom, and had bene like to Gomorrha.

³² Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the workes of the Lawe: for they haue stumbled at the stumbling stone,

⁵ Euen so then at this present time is there a remnant according to the election of grace. ⁶ And if it be of grace, it is no more of workes: or els were grace no more grace: but if it be of workes, it is no more grace: or els were worke no more worke.

² And fashion not your selues like vnto this worlde, but bee yee changed by the renewing of your minde, that ye may prooue what that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God is.

² Wherein, in times past ye walked, according to the course of this world, and after the prince that ruleth in the aire, euen the spirite, that nowe worketh in the children of disobedience, ³ Among whom we also had our conuersation in time past, in the lustes of our flesh, in fulfilling the will of the flesh, and of the minde, and were by nature the children of wrath, as well as others.

² And haue sent Timotheus our brother and minister of God, and our labour felow in the Gospel of Christ, to stablish you, and to comfort you touching your faith, ³ That no man should be moued with these afflictions: for ye your selues knowe, that we are appointed thereunto. ⁴ For verily when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulations, euen as it came to passe, and ye knowe it. ⁵ Euen for this cause, when I could no longer forbeare, I sent him that I might knowe of your faith, lest the tempter had tempted you in any sort, and that our labour had bene in vaine.

²⁰ Which were in time passed disobedient, when once the long suffering of God abode in the dayes of Noe, while the Arke was preparing, wherein fewe, that is, eight soules were saued in the water. ²¹ Whereof the baptisme that nowe is, answering that figure, (which is not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but a confident demaunding which a good conscience maketh to God) saueth vs also by the resurrection of Iesus Christ,
