⁵⁷ And they were offended with him. Then Iesus said to them, A Prophet is not without honour, saue in his owne countrey, and in his owne house.

¹⁴ And he shalbe as a Sanctuarie: but as a stumbling stone, and as a rocke to fall vpon, to both the houses of Israel, and as a snare and as a net to the inhabitants of Ierusalem.

⁷ Thus sayeth the Lord the redeemer of Israel, and his Holie one, to him that is despised in soule, to a nation that is abhorred, to a seruaunt of rulers, Kinges shall see, and arise, and princes shall worship, because of the Lord, that is faithfull: and ye Holy one of Israel, which hath chosen thee.

³ He is despised and reiected of men: he is a man full of sorowes and hath experience of infirmities: we hidde as it were our faces from him: he was despised and we esteemed him not.

⁶ And blessed is he that shall not be offeded in me.

³ Is not this that carpenter Maries sonne, the brother of Iames and Ioses, and of Iuda and Simon? and are not his sisters here with vs? And they were offended in him.

¹⁴ Then King Herod heard of him (for his name was made manifest) and sayd, Iohn Baptist is risen againe from the dead, and therefore great workes are wrought by him.

³⁴ And Simeon blessed them, and saide vnto Mary his mother, Beholde, this childe is appointed for the fall and rising againe of many in Israel, and for a signe which shalbe spoken against, ³⁵ (Yea and a sworde shall pearce through thy soule) that the thoughts of many heartes may be opened.

²⁴ And he saide, Verely I say vnto you, No Prophet is accepted in his owne countrey.

²³ And blessed is hee, that shall not be offended in me.

⁴⁴ For Iesus himselfe had testified, that a Prophet hath none honour in his owne countrey.

⁶¹ But Iesus knowing in himselfe, that his disciples murmured at this, saide vnto them, Doeth this offend you?

²² For Moses said vnto the Fathers, The Lord your God shall raise vp vnto you a Prophet, euen of your brethren, like vnto me: ye shall heare him in all things, whatsoeuer he shall say vnto you. ²³ For it shalbe that euery person which shall not heare that Prophet, shall be destroyed out of the people.

³⁷ This is that Moses, which saide vnto the children of Israel, A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise vp vnto you, euen of your brethren, like vnto me: him shall ye heare. ³⁸ This is he that was in the Congregation, in the wildernes with the Angell, which spake to him in mount Sina, and with our fathers, who receiued the liuely oracles to giue vnto vs. ³⁹ To whom our fathers would not obey, but refused, and in their hearts turned backe againe into Egypt:

⁵¹ Ye stiffenecked and of vncircumcised heartes and eares, ye haue alwayes resisted the holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you. ⁵² Which of the Prophets haue not your fathers persecuted? and they haue slaine them, which shewed before of the comming of that Iust, of whome ye are now the betrayers and murtherers,

²³ But wee preach Christ crucified: vnto the Iewes, euen a stumbling blocke, and vnto the Grecians, foolishnesse: ²⁴ But vnto them which are called, both of the Iewes and Grecians, we preach Christ, the power of God, and the wisedome of God. ²⁵ For the foolishnesse of God is wiser then men, and the weakenesse of God is stronger then men. ²⁶ For brethren, you see your calling, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called. ²⁷ But God hath chosen the foolish thinges of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weake thinges of the worlde, to confound the mightie things, ²⁸ And vile things of the worlde and thinges which are despised, hath God chosen, and thinges which are not, to bring to nought thinges that are,
