⁴³ Wo be to you, Pharises: for ye loue the vppermost seats in the Synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

¹⁸ Pride goeth before destruction, and an high minde before the fall.

⁶ And loue the chiefe place at feastes, and to haue the chiefe seates in the assemblies, ⁷ And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

³⁸ Moreouer he saide vnto them in his doctrine, Beware of the Scribes which loue to goe in long robes, and loue salutations in the markets, ³⁹ And the chiefe seates in the Synagogues, and the first roumes at feastes,

⁷ He spake also a parable to the ghestes, when he marked howe they chose out the chiefe roomes, and said vnto them, ⁸ When thou shalt be bidden of any man to a wedding, set not thy selfe downe in the chiefest place, lest a more honourable man then thou, be bidden of him, ⁹ And he that bade both him and thee, come, and say to thee, Giue this man roome, and thou then begin with shame to take the lowest roome. ¹⁰ But when thou art bidden, goe and sit downe in the lowest roome, that when he that bade thee, cometh, he may say vnto thee, Friende, sit vp hier: then shalt thou haue worship in the presence of them that sit at table with thee. ¹¹ For whosoeuer exalteth himselfe, shall be brought lowe, and he that humbleth himselfe, shall be exalted.

⁴⁶ Beware of the Scribes, which willingly go in long robes, and loue salutations in the markets, and the highest seates in the assemblies, and the chiefe roomes at feastes:

¹⁰ Be affectioned to loue one another with brotherly loue. In giuing honour, goe one before another,

³ That nothing be done through contention or vaine glory, but that in meekenesse of minde euery man esteeme other better then himselfe.

² For if there come into your company a man with a golde ring, and in goodly apparell, and there come in also a poore man in vile raiment, ³ And ye haue a respect to him that weareth the gaie clothing; and say vnto him, Sit thou here in a goodly place, and say vnto the poore, Stand thou there, or sit here vnder my footestoole, ⁴ Are yee not partiall in your selues, and are become iudges of euill thoughts?

⁹ I wrote vnto the Church: but Diotrephes which loueth to haue the preeminence among them, receiueth vs not.
