³¹ Nowe so it fell out, that there came downe a certaine Priest that same way, and when he sawe him, he passed by on the other side.

¹⁰ Mine heart panteth: my strength faileth me, and the light of mine eyes, euen they are not mine owne. ¹¹ My louers and my friends stand aside from my plague, and my kinsmen stand a farre off.

²⁰ Rebuke hath broken mine heart, and I am full of heauinesse, and I looked for some to haue pitie on me, but there was none: and for comforters, but I found none.

⁴ I looked vpon my right hand, and beheld, but there was none that would knowe me: all refuge failed me, and none cared for my soule.

¹³ He that stoppeth his eare at the crying of the poore, he shall also cry and not be heard.

¹¹ Deliuer them that are drawen to death: wilt thou not preserue them that are led to be slaine? ¹² If thou say, Beholde, we knew not of it: he that pondereth the heartes, doeth not hee vnderstand it? and hee that keepeth thy soule, knoweth he it not? will not he also recompense euery man according to his workes?

¹¹ I returned, and I sawe vnder the sunne that the race is not to the swift, nor the battell to the strong, nor yet bread to the wise, nor also riches to men of vnderstanding, neither yet fauour to men of knowledge: but time and chance commeth to them all.

³¹ The Prophets prophesie lies, and ye Priests receiue giftes in their handes, and my people delite therein. What will ye then doe in the ende thereof?

¹ O ye Priestes, heare this, and hearken ye, O house of Israel, and giue ye eare, O house of the King: for iudgement is towarde you, because you haue bene a snare on Mizpah, and a net spred vpon Tabor.

⁹ And as the eues waite for a man, so the companie of Priestes murder in the way by consent: for they worke mischiefe.

¹⁰ Who is there euen among you, that would shut the doores? and kindle not fire on mine altar in vaine, I haue no pleasure in you, sayeth the Lord of hostes, neither will I accept an offering at your hande.

¹³ For there shalbe condemnation merciles to him that sheweth not mercie, and mercie reioyceth against condemnation. ¹⁴ What auaileth it, my brethren, though a man saith he hath faith, when he hath no workes? can that faith saue him? ¹⁵ For if a brother or a sister bee naked and destitute of daily foode, ¹⁶ And one of you say vnto them, Depart in peace: warme your selues, and fil your bellies, notwithstading ye giue them not those things which are needefull to the body, what helpeth it?

¹⁶ Hereby haue we perceiued loue, that he layde downe his life for vs: therefore we ought also to lay downe our liues for the brethren. ¹⁷ And whosoeuer hath this worlds good, and seeth his brother haue neede, and shutteth vp his compassion from him, howe dwelleth the loue of God in him? ¹⁸ My litle children, let vs not loue in worde, neither in tongue onely, but in deede and in trueth.
