¹³ For so shoulde I now haue lyen and bene quiet, I should haue slept then, and bene at rest,

⁸ The eye that hath seene me, shall see me no more: thine eyes are vpon me, and I shall be no longer. ⁹ As the cloude vanisheth and goeth away, so he that goeth downe to the graue, shall come vp no more. ¹⁰ He shall returne no more to his house, neither shall his place knowe him any more.

²¹ And why doest thou not pardon my trespasse? and take away mine iniquitie? for nowe shall I sleepe in the dust, and if thou seekest me in the morning, I shall not be found.

²² Into a land, I say, darke as darknes it selfe, and into the shadow of death, where is none order, but the light is there as darkenesse.

¹⁰ But man is sicke, and dyeth, and man perisheth, and where is he? ¹¹ As the waters passe from the sea, and as the flood decayeth and dryeth vp, ¹² So man sleepeth and riseth not: for hee shall not wake againe, nor be raised from his sleepe till the heauen be no more.

¹³ Though I hope, yet the graue shall bee mine house, and I shall make my bed in the darke.

²⁷ Whome I my selfe shall see, and mine eyes shall beholde, and none other for me, though my reynes are consumed within me.

¹³ They spend their dayes in wealth, and suddenly they go downe to the graue.

²³ One dyeth in his full strength, being in all ease and prosperitie.

³ If a man beget an hundreth children and liue many yeeres, and the dayes of his yeeres be multiplied, and his soule be not satisfied with good things, and he be not buried, I say that an vntimely fruite is better then he. ⁴ For he commeth into vanitie and goeth into darkenesse: and his name shall be couered with darkenesse. ⁵ Also he hath not seene ye sunne, nor knowen it: therefore this hath more rest then the other.

¹⁰ All that thine hand shall finde to doe, doe it with all thy power: for there is neither worke nor inuention, nor knowledge, nor wisedome in the graue whither thou goest.
